On Windows Calibre seems to do exactly as you suggest, the application opens a relatively small window and then it resizes and repositions the window to the last used state. Perhaps OSX uses animation when windows are resized or repositioned programatically.

As you probably know, on Windows, programs are normally started from 'program shortcuts'. These are small files with the extension .LNK. I believe the OSX equivalent of a Windows shortcut is an ALIAS file. Windows shortcut files have a Run property (attribute) which specifies the state of the program's main window when it starts, viz:

If I set the Run property of calibre's taskbar shortcut to 'Minimised' and then click on it, the calibre window is not seen (I have the splash screen turned off). If I wait until calibre's taskbar icon highlights (a moment or two) and then click on it again, it immediately opens to the last used state in terms of size and position, so the resize and reposition must happen whilst it's in a minimised state.

Perhaps OSX ALIAS files have something similar to the Windows Shortcut file Run property that you could experiment with.

BR

BTW I don't click on taskbar icons, I use Winkey+keyboard shortcuts to select them and Enter to action them.

Thanks!

I keep Calibre in the dock and open it from there. I didn't have any trouble opening from my alias or from the applications folder, just from the dock. So I removed it from the dock, and restored it, and it seems to open alright now, at least for now.

When I start calibre, I also get a VERY brief glimpse of the cover carousel in the top LEFT corner of the book list, and the tag browser is too wide. After a split second, the screen fills up correctly and the tag browser resizes. If I blink, I can easily miss the whole "event"!

Part of a screen capture is attached.
