If you dig into the catalog there is a lot of stuff not marked Scribd Select that is open to listen to with membership. A good portion of Naxos Classics audiobooks are included as well as a slew of Children's audiobooks. This alone is worth the membership fee for me. Top that off with my being able to get most of my TBR pile that is not in the NYC libraries for $10 bucks a month makes it a great value. My sister uses my eBook credits since I rarely read books anymore, I would much rather listen to a book.

But if customer support is non existent do you want to trust them? Four days is a very long time for no response.

I sent them a tweet on Twitter an hour ago. At this point if they don't get back with me tommorow. I'm going to lose all my credits. Not happy.

Update: Twitter worked!

Support had me go ahead and cancel which means I lost all my credits but I can resubscribe and they will manually add back the credits if I open a ticket. I wasn't clear on what happens to my titles I've purchased once my membership ends? Anyone know?

It wont let me re-join till after my current subscription ends on
Sunday. I took screenshots of my saved books just in case they go poof!

Just for future reference Twitter is the way to get in touch with them.

When they rolled out the credit system, there were FAQs. They said that if you cancel and resubscribe to contact customer support and they will reinstate your previous items to your account.

I don't understand what you mean by old system. I'm talking about the currwnt system where you get a limited amount of credits each month for eBooks and audiobooks. If you cancel and resubscribe they said they will restore your library of previous credits redeemed.

Just a quick update: Scribd support has added back my lost credits and I'm quite happy. The customer service representative I've been working with has been outstanding.

For the monthly subscription you'll find that books come and go. I know I canceled after one of the times they purged thousands of titles when most of my TBR list were removed from the service. Once canceled you don't retain access to anything, or at least you didn't then.

This may not be news, but I see Scribd is now offering a "Lite" membership for $3.99 a month.
Quote:
1 book each month

Unlimited access to Scribd Selects, a curated collection of books, audiobooks, and more that is updated every month with new reads

Unlimited access to documents and sheet music
I was offered this as part of their very tedious process for canceling a subscription (mine was a trial) where you have to tell them No a bunch of times on multiple pages before anything actually gets cancelled.

I wonder if you get to keep your credits with this plan?

Of course there is nothing about that plan anywhere on their site. Just like they never advertised they had a annual plan for like $49 dollars or so. Or used to.

I cancelled when they yanked pretty much everything I had on my wishlist. And I could never get their app to work properly.

That's good to know! I am going to see if I can get that.

Well I was going to try it....but I discovered their ebooks are tolerable when viewed in landscape, so I'll keep the subscription for now. I have a list of titles that aren't at the library.
