Still no update. Although I do see the desktop app is continuously looking for an update.. not sure for what though as it never completes

Yes it is, it's just an upgrade to a firmware which resolves issues in the released firmware.

Further any user who expects software to be perfect upon release had best limit their software purchases to variants of printing 'hello world'. Things are not always going to work out of the box.

Those who have battery issues, there are NUMEROUS threads which detail how to work around most, if not all, of them for now.

Issues with lighting are likely not a firmware issue or we'd have seen more consistent reports of it.

Responsiveness to touch is an issue which hopefully gets some attention in the future firmware upgrade.

So, i bring my kobo back today.

I dont bring back the reader based on my impatient. No, i bring it back, because Kobo doesnt talk to customer. So i have to think, my Reader is damaged....
Funny [language] for 230 Euro, Dollar or whatever.

I just thought that the semantic differences were immediately available to anyone writing here.
We are talking about software that is supposed to fix bugs in the firmware. If you actually consider that an “upgrade”, your initial bar must have been very low.
If you consider “draining battery due to sync and sleep mode malfunction” merely “not perfect upon release” I hope the next car you’re buying is one where the software has a bug so that the stereo secretly draws power from the battery overnight so that you wake up to a depleted battery in the morning. That should take you back to the “real world”

On another note: Any news on the firmware? Sure it’s coming this year?

Been there, done that. Not the stereo but the automatic headlight turnoff which had a habit of turning the headlights on and leaving them on if you hit the door open button on the remote rapidly a couple of times. Such as when you were digging your house keys out of a pocket and accidentally pressed the door open button. Just a titch more annoying than having your ereader battery not lasting as long as expected -- the ereader has never made me late for work.

I'm not even sure if anyone at Kobo could give you an exact date but the release is getting very close would be my opinion. I will guarantee you that it will not be today (2016-Oct-10) since in Canada this is the Thanksgiving holiday.

My experience is that they do care. And I'm pretty sure that's why the firmware is taking time.
