I HAVE A feeling a new updated voyage is coming out
amazon have recently put the prices down of their refurbished down to around £118 in uk when it used to be around £140

That is NOT innovation. It is merely keeping up with the other manufacturers in the industry. Big difference in innovation and incorporating technologies that are being introduced by others.

If they do they better hurry up as it is getting closer to Black Friday every day. There has to be enough lead time to get the new model(s) available in plenty of time for Black Friday and holiday shoppers in general. Personally I suspect they won't introduce any new Kindles this year, but you never know. They might do a minor upgrade as in increasing RAM or adding a new color to an existing model.

Amazon were the first manufacturer to use a 300dpi eink screen with the Voyage. I didn't say that it was "innovation" to switch from a 212 to a 300dpi screen; I just said that it was (IMHO) not a trivial change. Given that the PW is not one of Amazon's high-end models, it's pretty unlikely to see innovative changes; such changes generally occur at the high end and then filter down.

And my point is that buyers expect certain upgrades to take place. This year's computer models are expected to have a faster processor and perhaps more RAM than the previous years. The same is true for tablets and smartphones. And when it comes to eInk readers, I think it is normal to expect more RAM and storage and better resolution. I personally see these kinds of improvements as being merely incremental, minor upgrades designed to keep the competition from leapfrogging way ahead of your device. Of course the unfortunate reality with eInk readers is that most of the manufacturers from the past years have dropped out of the market leaving Amazon without much competition. So Amazon can make lackluster upgrades and get away with it. Kobo is still a player, but I don't think Amazon really views Kobo as much of a threat.

We must agree to differ, Jack. Having had my Voyage for 18 months or so now, I regard it as one of the best things I've ever spent money on. It's a pretty mature market now. We really don't need a constant stream of new models and new gimmicks.

Due to my impending redundancy I treated myself to a 3G Voyage and I don't regret it, I'm not short of device to read on but that device is my handbag and goes everywhere with me. I honestly don't see how Amazon could improve it. Certainly not with the Oasis!

No, the Oasis offered no benefits to me, either. In fact it removed two of my favourite features of the Voyage: the automatic light sensor and the haptic page turn sensors (which I much prefer to physical buttons). Still, choice is good; I'm pleased they're selling both the Voyage and the Oasis.

The Oasis certainly has a much better form factor, IMHO. Unfortunately, its screen is not an improvement on the Voyage's. I would really like a Kindle with the shape of an Oasis and the screen of a Voyage.

Just add in the battery of the Voyage as well and no split battery with 3/4 in the case, then sell it without the case. Then I might be tempted. Plus of course add back the auto adjust light.

The change from 212 ppi to 300 ppi was a major change for those of us who read at small font sizes, or even at sizes that would be comparable to physical pocketbook font sizes.

It's a negligible change if one reads at huge font sizes.

In the greater scheme of things, saying that it wasn't a major change is akin to a person who only reads outdoors in the afternoon claiming that an ereader frontlight isn't a major change.

Simply put inside the battery from the Voyage also as well as not any break up battery along with 3 / 4 inside the case, next sell the idea without having the case. After that We could be tempted. And in fact include back the actual auto modify light.
