I used KU twice in free trails. All I can figure is the Authors with the Big 5 Publishing houses Don't use... they don't do library books either. So I never paid for a script to KU Since my authors are with the big 5.

You will find some used to be with Big 5 authors. But they are fairly rare.
I accidentally did a free trial to Kindle Unlimited. My reason for not using it is most of the authors there do 5 free days or 99 cents days and I am cheap.

I would never purchase such an image-heavy book to read on a Kindle. This would only suit the kindle Fire, which I don't have, or a tablet, which I also don't have, but isn't suited to eink because of the colour photos. If I were interested in the subject, I'd buy it as a hardback or to read on the pc (in which case the blog would do).

Many tablets have kindle apps, but they can also view your blog. Maybe aim at the tablet market because of the colour and include interesting things which are not part of the blog.
For those of us with eink readers, consider a paper version of the book.
