I just downloaded a copy from Overdrive and the version is now 3.0_r17. It still does not have any paragraph spaces. Are you sure you did not make any changes like removing the DRM and converting to kepub? If you did, then there's a major issue with converting to kepub as it's changing the formatting.

Nope. That was the whole reason I got the KA1 cause I have no patience for side loading books at all. I either buy them directly from kobo, or now with the build in overdrive I'm borrowing them.

Oddly the cover of the book that shows on my reader is the cover they show from the TV series. I'm assuming that different libraries may have different copies/versions?

Here is a pic. This is the version they loaned me via overdrive (Greater Sudbury Public Library) in Ontario. If that helps. I used overdrive right on the kobo itself via the overdrive feature to borrow it. Didn't go through my iPhone app or the website.

Personally, I don't understand all the dialogue about back lighting. I have it turned totally off and plan to leave it that way.

My two bottom corners have dark areas. The bottom right is the worst, because it covers a larger area. I'll see how my first 24-hours goes, bu I'm guess I may need to exchange as well.

It has improved some as I've started to use it, or it is less visible at night.

Maybe Catherine is using the Overdrive from the Aura One, in which case it would be downloading a kepub?

I think it is a combination of eyes and screen and outside light temperature: my old eyes don't see rainbows in your photos, just greyish (on the greenish side) blobs and border.

My One doesn't have blobs in the middle. What I see in daylight (greyish day with brighter moments):
* device: light at 100%, natural light off: a VERY faint narrow grey border all around, with a brighter line under the grey bottom border. There were some light cones at the bottom of my first One (which I completely forgot when I was not looking for it), but they are much fainter on this One (I exchanged because of battery problems).
* device: light and natural light at 100%: same greyer borders. The color is uniform, a deep orange in the darker corner behind my computer (there are no really dark corners in my flat), a warm light cream in front of the window (brighter moment).

I have no idea the difference between Epubs and Kepubs. Does overdrive always download Kepubs? And yes, I used the Overdrive directly from the Aura one.

This conversation should be moved to a new thread, because it is OT.

You don't have to turn off back lighting as there is no back lighting to turn off.

Now if you had said front lighting, that would be different as that's what Kobo's with lights have.

OK, I see what's going on. Different publisher, different formatting.

Anyway, I hope you get your lighting sorted with the new A1 that's on the way.

John, in any event, I have KA1 lighting turned off and don't expect to turn it back on.

If you don't like to use the front lighting then why are you here commenting on a thread about the quality of its execution? It brings nothing helpful to the discussion.

W, I didn't say I don't like it. I haven't experimented with it.

Just offering a different slant on the issue!

I just contacted Kobo and ran through the whole business of doing a factory reset and sent them all my pictures for consideration for an exchange.

Waiting to see what will be done.

On the plus side, the battery works great, I have not seen any of the battery or auto update issues that others have had.

It is a lovely little reader that I like better than my original Kobo Aura, despite the lighting issues.
