Sony had a pink ereader several years ago. It was brilliant! I like white devices too. There are always decal skins to give your ereader some color when the covers are boring.

I also had the pink 5" Sony and later the red 6"one. Yes, the decal skins are lovely but unfortunately work out quite expensive when you ship to Europe.

I've noticed that the material on the inside of the cover can trigger a touch event from the device. What it does depend on what part of the screen the cover touches before sleep mode kicks in. I've now learnt to avoid pressure on the cover while closing to avoid these phantom touches. Annoying but not a deal breaker.

The included instructions about using the cover as a stand make it clear that the top magnet should hold the top of the cover in the open and folded back position. I've found that to stand any chance of that happening I have to squeeze the fold hard against the device to properly align the magnet with the metal and even then the hold is weak. The bottom magnet appears to have a much stronger attraction but that one is redundant in stand mode.

I haven't noticed any phantom page turns. Although, I think the stand feature of the cover could be better. I bent the cover along the crease several times to help.

For people who have this cover already: is it hard, both from the front and the back? I have a third party sleep cover for my KPW1, and it's as hard as a hardcover book.

I need that because I carry the reader in my work bag in public transport, and I don't want it to get damaged if someone bumps into the bag or it gets dropped or something. The Kindle has been surviving daily public transport trips for almost four years now, without a single scratch.

Awaiting a cover, I now use a soft, cheap neoprene 8 inch tablet sleeve to temporarily protect the KA1, so it doesn't lie around the house naked. I don't dare put it into my work bag like that though, so I'm now reading a book on the KA1, and short stories on the Kindle in public transport until I can get a cover for the KA1.

Now I've seen Stingo's comment I decided to pre-order it. Thanks.

In France, Kobo says it will be available on September 23, and Fnac from September 30. With the 5% adhérent rebate it comes to 42.74€, hopefully it will be arrive in time so I have it for my second next trip.

The cover is hard, but the front not quite as stiff as the Amazon voyage cover and, being larger, more possible to bend very slightly and of course the fold adds to that possibility. But I consider it good protection although I generally don't carry it with other items in a bag. I've also had the random touch from the cover before sleep either turning a page or opening an option. The back cover is hard. The feel of the leather is slightly softer than that of the voyage cover. One thing I have only seen with one third-party cover is the front being held magnetically to the back, which I like a lot. As mentioned, the top doesn't hold as well as the part below the fold, but most front covers don't hold at all. The voyage front cover is held very firmly to the back when folded or in easel position.

It's a little thinner, but stiffer, than the early kindle covers from Amazon, but the difference, of course, is that the cover rests on the screen, whereas with the raised bezels of the earlier ones it didn't.

Thanks. That is a good point: the KPW1 has raised bezels, and thus the hard cover doesn't touch the screen. I put the reader in the front zipper/pouch of my work bag, with the back to the outside (I can get it in and out from there, easily, without opening the entire bag). Sometimes the bag gets bumped, kicked, dropped... whatever can happen to a bag. The KPW doesn't have a single scratch though, and even the cover looks like new.

I think the only way to actually damage the KPW1 in this cover is to smash it with a hammer, from the front. I'd want something like that for the KA1, and it doesn't need to be a thin cover. The one for my KPW1 actually also covers the bezel, so the screen is even a 'double step down', if you know what I mean. I don't mind if a KA1 cover covers the bezels. I'm not hell-bent on keeping the front end flush at all costs.

The thickest cover I've ever had is one from Noreve, but that is for the h2o, which has the raised bezels. Doubt they have one for the KA1 yet. Maybe you need something more padded to carry it in over the fitted cover, then take it out of the outer protector to read. Not that I'm suggesting it wouldn't be safe in just the kobo cover, but I wouldn't want to be the one to say it was. Even slipping it into a bubble-pak mailer would add more cushioned protection.

I have noticed the phantom page turns from closing the cover. It's annoying because I have to go back and try to find my place. I need to pay closer attention, but I think sometimes it even goes forward a few pages.

This is all very odd, isn't it? I thought that one of the benefits of capacitive screens was supposed to be that they only respond to skin touches not random touches by inanimate objects.

I hadn't thought about that. I don't know what's causing it, only that it's not where I left it when I open the sleep cover again.

My sleep cover is going back.

I'm having major issues with the auto-sleep feature. In other words, I close the cover and it doesn't sleep! The lights stay on and drain the battery down 50% or more overnight. I close the cover and I have to peer at the very narrow strip between the cover and screen. Lights stay on about 50% of the time and I have to do multiple open/closes before the lights finally dim and I know it's going to sleep. During the day it's impossible to tell if the lights are on/off so I've taken to reading with them entirely off so I don't have to worry about battery drain issues with the cover.

A weird side effect: I have the auto-sleep timer set to 15 minutes. Having it in the sleep cover seems to negate that? At any rate, it didn't auto-sleep with the sleep cover closed and then never turned off automatically based on the timer either.

I also find the stand capability to be weak (top magnet is much weaker than the bottom) and the stand doesn't really stay "standing".

So overall, I'm VERY disappointed in the sleep cover. Especially at $50. I'm returning mine and waiting for a 3rd party cover.

Just performed the totally scientific test of folding a bit of my t-shirt over my finger and tapping the screen. It actually took a few layers of material to prevent the screen from reacting to the touch. Maybe the cover is allowing enough of a passthrough to trigger the screen.

I don't have a cover, and don't intend to buy one.

You do have 'Automatically sleep and wake up' checked under 'Energy Saving and Privacy' in settings?
