I completely agree that books with color pictures and/or several columns of text, magazines etc are unsuitable for e-ink. But I still don't like to read them on a tablet. When I want to read something that wouldn't look good on my Kindles, I get a paper edition. Mostly I read novels, though, and e-ink is perfect for them.

I understand that a tablet is a good and sometimes even the only possible option for many people. Just not for me personally.

Fair enough, each to their own.

I have a huge physical book collection, and some things indeed are much better read in that format, rather than ebook.

These days I try to get everything I can in ebook format ... if it makes sense to. Price is always a bugger though, and often makes it difficult to stick to ebook only, and then sometimes availability rears its ugly head to.

We are still in the era of publishers (mostly) and authors (sometimes), still pretending to like ebooks ... but charging way too much for them, as a deliberate incentive to buy physical instead, when ebook costs are minimal in comparison ... though many will blatantly lie and tell you otherwise. I've written a few articles over the years about that last, proving beyond the doubt that the high cost of ebooks is just to prop up the costs of the physical versions.

As for my personal journey of transitioning from physical books to ebooks, it hasn't been easy much of the time. For books by new authors, not a problem. But books by existing authors I collect, especially in series, that has been particularly hard to change from ... DRM initially making that even less appealing. Despite loving physical books (look & feel etc), I have now mentally accepted, that getting an ebook version makes more sense ... so the only difficulty now, is the ridiculous prices most are. To that end, I have created a wishlist kind of program (KindEbook Wishlist), that helps me keep tabs on the variation of Amazon prices over time ... and thus purchasing at the right moment.
