I far prefer the haptic sensors on the Voyage to physical buttons - there's far less likelihood of accidental presses with them.

The word "haptic" means "related to the sense of touch". The Voyage doesn't have physical page turn buttons; it has pressure sensors on the bezel which react to an increase in pressure by turning the page. The reason I prefer the sensors to physical buttons is that they react to changes in pressure rather to "absolute" pressure, so you can hold the Voyage as lightly or as firmly as you wish, and you won't get accidental page turns. You just press a little harder (and the sensitivity can be adjusted) to turn the page. I think they work really, really well. I far prefer them to the physical buttons I've used on other readers.

I tried the haptic sensors for page turns on my Voyage and I also thought they work very well. I'm happy with swiping to turn pages so I never remembered to use them and finally turned them off. I've tried them again at other times, always with the same results.
I do think they're better than physical buttons because I was always accidentally turning pages with them and that doesn't happen with the haptic buttons. If only I had a use for them. ![]() Barry |

It's very realistic as it stands, IMHO. Certainly the best reader I've ever owned, and I've had a few in my time

Compared to a standard kindle what do you get for the extra £120 that the standard one doesn't have?

I bought a Voyage because I could not do without buttons (I had 3 Kindle Keyboards!). However, after several months, I only use the buttons occasionally. I thought I would hate touching the screen all the time (fingerprints - I hate fingerprints), but it became a nothing - I just use a microfiber cloth to clean it every day.
Now, I love, love, love my Voyage, but it you don't want to fork out that much money, the Paperwhite was pretty similar without the buttons. The main feature, besides the buttons, was the auto-lighting. I also like the bezel edge, but that's probably not the biggest driver for most people. The reality is that none of the ereaders will eventually have buttons simply because we are a tiny market - it is less costly to change software than to include hardware. But, as mentioned, if you are still hung up on buttons (as I was), get a Voyage. |

Had to register for this me ☺️
I am also a long time owner is kindle 3, but the one feature that defines the experience for me besides the buttons is text to speech. The only device I found so far was boyue T62... It does not look nearly as good as other readers though. Any other recommendations? |

I've had my Voyage for about 20 months now. Do I think it's worth the approximately 20p a day extra it's cost me compared to a basic Kindle? Heck yes. My Kindle is (after my iPhone) probably my most-used gadget. Keep it for a couple of years and the additional amount is negligible compared to the benefits.

Sorry, topic is "Almost time to replace my kindle 3" and I just mentioned that I require a certain subset of kindle 3 functionality (text to speech). Seems that I misunderstood not being a native speaker and all. Thanks for your help!
edit: Opened a new topic: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=278023 @HarryT: Thanks, this seems useful, but extremely cumbersome. Thank you anyway! Good to know that this feature exists. They must have introduced it in 2016? I read that some laws were waived until 2016 and no longer are, guess this is why? Last edited by Neikius; 09-04-2016 at 02:58 PM. |

The PW3, Voyage and Oasis all support TTS via an external audio adapter.
