Its not very long time period so these readers die often? Whats your experience with older kindle and hobo readers? How long they lasted?
A one year warranty should be long enough to find manufacturing defects. It has nothing to do with how long a product will last.

Many of the older units supported this format but not many of the newer ones. Go to our wiki. Search for PPT and select "containing" for a list of all articles that have this word. You can also go to the Power Point article (PPT) and then click on "What links here" in the left column. Of course the newer PPT format is called pptx but I could find nothing listed for this. Of course many tablets have apps that can read this format.

Thats not a big problem, ppt can be converted to pdf.

Last thing for now.. From where kobo sends their product? I remember that I saw someone saying that its from Japan?

If its from Asia then I would probably need to pay extra tax and tarrifs since Im in Europe. In that case I would need to buy it from amazon.de or amazon.co.uk (if there is no taxes) to avoid extra taxes and tarrifs

It may depend on what country you're buying from. When I've bought from the US the devices have been shipped from Canada.

What AnemicOak said. When one of the readers came out (I forget which one) anyone in the U.S. or Canada that bought the official Kobo cover with it seemed to have been shipped direct from Taiwan maybe, while those that were just getting the device had it shipped more "locally". You may still be better off buying somewhere EU to cover yourself on the tariffs front as you won't find out about them until it arrives.

Life itself is a gamble.

Just make sure you house your ebook reader in a sturdy case WHILE READING IT ON THE BUS.

I have had no problems with naked readers fracturing.

Just remember a case will help. And don't put your elbow through it.

Oh and if you try to be super delicate with it, there is a greater risk of an accident.

And I know mine were not treated particularly gentle before I got them.

I think its more important to keep your ereader in a sturdy case while carrying it in your bag rather than while reading it on the bus.

Seriously, most screen fractures seem to occur due to twisting or flexing of the screens, and the crack often appears at a later date, after a slight bump (like when you place it down on a table) and people then think "what's happened, this thing has broken and I never dropped it?". So when you carry it in bag or pocket, make sure its in a sturdy case that will protect the screen, and don't let any other objects lie against the screen while its in your bag.

If you are so careful with your device, then you must use one hard shell cover (like that you see on amazon site). I ordered the same one for my 4 days old GloHD.
My Aura 6'' is 16 months old and I always carry it around with me in my bag. I use the same cover. The reader is in excellent condition (after all the stress it had: Cold and hot conditions under the sun - with the case, of course!-. )
The same with my H2O. Is almost 11 months old. I have it for home reading. The case save the device from several FALL asleep...
The newest Glo HD is laying on a self and waiting his case. I won't go outside my door with a naked device... I will bring a disaster for sure!

I never can make up my mind about cases. I currently have all my ereaders in a case. At other times I'll leave them out of their cases. I really prefer them without cases but I worry about them.

I'm pretty careful with them and I've been using ereaders for about 7 or 8 years and I've never damaged one yet even though 2/3 of that time my devices haven't been in cases. So I think my worry is mostly in my head but putting a cover lets me relax a bit so that's sometimes what I do.

Before ereaders I read on Palms and other PDA's for years and I rarely used a case for those either and I never scratched or damaged one. I always had a case and I sometimes used it.

One correction: I usually do put an ereader in a case if I take it with me for any length of time. I never did that with PDA's since they lived in my shirt pocket. Now my phone lives in my shirt pocket and I don't use a case. I've also never damaged a phone.

Yes and no. I've had 4 or 5 e-readers, never used a case and never had a broken screen (I do use a wooden/plexiglass box to protect it if I have my e-reader in luggage etc). I have at least 2 that I've managed to drop and the edge hit a hardwood floor hard enough to deform the plastic on the edge of the device. As soulfuldog said, I'm mostly concerned with my devices if going into a bag or something where it might get a direct hit on the screen or more importantly get twisted (with twisting I'm not convinced most cases help you anyway).
I know there are a number of users on here that use their devices on transit during their commute and don't seem to have a problem. With a bit of care and a bit of luck you'll be fine.

I've never dropped any of my Readers on a bus. But then, I've always kept then in a case. The case makes it easier to hold a Reader so less chance of dropping when the bus goes over potholes, bumps, and speed-bumps.

I'll disagree with the case making it easier to hold. I depends on the device. The Kobo Touch had this nice quilted back that I found made it very easy to hold. The case my wife used on her Touch was smooth with no extra grip. Add that it pretty much tripled the weight, the case didn't really make it any easier to carry.
