If the cord is not the problem, try formatting the partition (fat32) and see what happens. You've nothing to lose.

Yes, tried 3 different micro USB cords. I've contacted customer service and waiting for their decision.

I tried formatting as the error message says but I get a message that 'windows cannot format the drive'.

If you have Linux anywhere or know anyone who's using Linux you could try and see if Linux detects it (and/or check for error messages in 'dmesg' if it does not). Just to rule out any doubt that it could still be due to the manifold Win10<->Kobo issues.

This is exactly what happened with my GLO. When Kobo CS comes back to you (I assume you bought it direct from them) just be firm in your replies and say it's not recognised by the computer and you cannot use the device so you want to return it as faulty. I'm sure you'll get there with them in the end it's just they are not the best CS

Did you have to pay return shipping or a re-stocking fee?

I'm being very firm. I updated my response to them telling them it doesn't work in Windows 7 either, so they can't blame the OS. It's a faulty unit.

I don't understand why they needed me to send them pictures??? Just making the customer jump through hoops.

In fairness, they are getting pictures to make sure it isn't a broken screen substrate that is why the device isn't working. Kobo CS isn't the best but usually they get things sorted out in the end.
