Sounds rather nifty.

But can you search for what is available at the library? Place things on hold? Use multiple OverDrive libraries (different cities)? I wouldn't imagine so.
More importantly... if you reserve a book on the library website and it gets checked out to you, does Kobo recognize the book as available to you?

It doesn't pop off as easily as the one on the GLo HD.

i agree too big and bulky for my liking, i want portability less is more, also it will be interesting to see what the Kobo Aura One 7.8 screen substrate is made of.

for me ultimately imho this new batch of Kobo Ereaders lack imagination and vision, they don't bring anything new to the table worth having, it's just pretty much more of the same.

best wishes koboy

Hmmm.... going by the only decent article I saw about the Overdrive "app" for Kobo, the answers to your questions would be:

1 Search Yes

2 Place holds Yes

3 Multiple libraries? Could easily be since the Overdrive app (iOS/Android) supports them.

4 Not sure -- since it is your library card number that is used, it should be. Works for me with auto checkout on holds using the Overdrive app on Windows, iOS and Android plus web browser on Windows.

Other questions for me is will it sync your library choices between apps on other OS? Will Adobe be unhappy with adding more devices under my Adobe ID?

Perhaps a competition with other sites which should remain nameless for misinformation bites of the week?

For the Sony PRS-T1, which was the first reader to have integrated library access, the answer was yes to all those. It was just the same as accessing OverDrive on your PC as far as functionality went.

Since Kobo owns OverDrive now, I would think that it would be at least as functional as Sony was several years ago.

I hope so, anyway, because even though I would like a smaller reader, the idea of getting that library integration back makes me tingly all over.

Pfft. The Aura One is smaller than your iPad Mini. And it's a heck of a lot lighter than several of the 7" tablets on my desk.

yes, but i don't use my ipad mini on bus for reading, i use my voyage...
i want a book reader, not a tablet that is difficult to use with one hand (read the verge review).
if you see my devices i've a kobo glo hd and a voyage, i sell my h2o because was too big and heavy for reading outside.
for me a reader of 7,8 inch is a nosense and on my desk i read with my voyage with the origami cover

If you read on your desk, the Kobo's cover for the Aura One would be perfect. You can stand it up and have the benefits of the bigger screen and better typography.

As for the H2O, no way is it too big or too heavy to use outside. I do it a lot with no problem. Last time I had my H2O out of the house, I was at the movies reading before the movie started. I've seen lots of people with an iPad or iPad Mini out and about. The H2O is smaller and lighter and can be used easily with one hand.

Kobo's parent company Rakuten acquired OverDrive 19 March 2015, for $410 million cash. I was expecting it to be integrated into Kobo firmware.

Different people have different sized hands, different comfort weights for devices, etc.

I will say the Kobo Aura One does seem to distribute the weight evenly. I keep teetering back and forth on if I want to buy one. I love my H2O, a big part of the reason I opted for that device was the bigger screen.

My concerns with the Kobo One-
1) lack of an SD card, which isn't a huge deal as I don't read comics and my current library is a hair under 2GB. And I can't see myself nearly quadrupling that before Kobo releases another new device with potentially greater storage. But I still do like having a 32gb card in there and knowing I wont hit limits.

2) the capacitive touch screen. Every ereader I've ever used has been IR. And while on one hand I'd love a device where dust and such can't get stuck under the bezel, I worry about accidentally triggering page turns while reading.

A good cover will make it much easier to hold the Aura One (well, any Reader is easier to hold with a good cover).
