As a point of clarification for the jailbreak and it's instructions, technically speaking, if the Parental Controls password has been set there is no way to turn it off without a device reset. Restrictions can be turned off but not the PC password. My suggestion: if you want to disable the Reset Device menu item by setting a Parental Controls password, re-enter the password in the Hint so you at least don't forget it. ![]() Oh-maybe @NiLuJe has found the file that can be deleted? ![]() |

Thanks.
This lets us know that we need to put reset first if the device has parental controls before doing the jailbreak. Thanks again. |

The first actual change to the device is a 'Reset' But I'll work in a note there of the above information for the people who have forgotten their passcode. - - - - - Knowing what file to delete will not help with a device that is not jail broken. |

No, of course not. I just want to know so I can remove the PC pw from my device while hacking around. Because, I would feel better hacking around, and updating jailbreaks and bridges and such on a device without a PC pw enforced (who knows what bits are set when it is enabled) then enabling the PC pw when everything is setup so there is no chance of an inadvertent reset. I don't know the OS the way you all do but that seems to make good sense.

With systems that do not fully boot properly, the short time the USB file system is accessible (a second or two) during the boot sequence is your only chance of escaping from the 'bad boot'. So - if you have any of the special controls set, not only can you not 'reset' the device, you can't rescue it over the USB port. Your only recourse in that situation is to do the recovery over the serial port. |

Wait, what? Parental Controls totally disables the userstore access, forever?
That doesn't sound very smart... Last edited by eschwartz; 08-17-2016 at 09:04 PM. |

Note: if all four items under restrictions are enabled (Cloud, browser, good reads, free time), and by that I mean you don't restrict their functionality, you will have disabled RESTRICTIONS but the Parental Controls password is still ENABLED. With the restrictions disabled the Reset Device menu item is again accessible from the menu and no longer grayed out. I did not try it of course but I think it is possible to Reset Device with the PC pw enabled. So there is a subtle difference between enabling the Parental Controls password and enabling Restrictions. It's of little matter to me but it could be of interest to you and the community who are developing software to jailbreak and such. A device with no Restrictions but with an enabled PC pw might behave in unusual ways don't you think? Last edited by picree; 08-17-2016 at 09:00 PM. |

And I was also noting that No Restrictions does not equal No Parental Controls (since they don't appear to be disable-able once enabled...unless you reset the device, blah, blah, blah). |
