Hi. Curly, I live in Asia as well. I also was contemplating the V3 vs the Gen3. I think the V3 has many good features as well. Warning. The Gen3 shipped to Asia is expensive. However I am enjoying my Gen3 very much and consider the price not important compared to the benefits of the reader: changeable font size, mobipocket format, etc...

I will most likely get a second reader ...V3 or one of the new Mentor's whenever they finally hit the streets.

Just found out that Cybook Gen3 has some issues about the lockup/reboot problem, isn't it?

But then I read the Hanlin V3 forum and what is WOLF by the way? Too many mentioned WOLF, is it the issue with Hanlin?

And what about the dictionary lookup, is it firmware-related ? I mean is it any chance that one day Hanlin update the firmware and adding the dictionary lookup feature as well??

And I guess I'd back to my old PC in terms of buying ebook, cause definitely Windows is easier than Mac. Because the bootcamp thing is gonna cost more money for the Windows itself. So.. like it or not...

Now I'm more confused as Hanlin or Cybook has its own issues

And oh... In case it'll be Hanlin, which one do you think is better? Hanlin, iBook or BeBook? Those 3 brand has their own different firmware update right? Or for example, can I use Bebook firmware update for Hanlin?? or Not??

Hidari, I kinda agree with you, as long as it has more benefit the price is ok to be higher than another.
And what makes you decide to buy Cybook rather than Hanlin? And about the changeable font, does Hanlin can do that too??

Sure... you have to make a directory in the SD card /crengine/fonts and put the ttf files of the fonts you want to use in it. Then, you can choose the font in the settings option for the books.

The V3 seems to be the best of the Hanlins. I am not sure from where you should buy it if you choose that one.

I like the Cybook because it handles Mobipocket (which is pre-installed). you are not confined to any ebook website.

The dictionaries are excellent and it it the ONLY one that has a Fast look up for a word. I find this useful As I read in Russian, Spanish, French, English and hopefully Japanese in the near future. So. The dictionaries all work at the same time.

I chose the Cybook for the Mobipocket, changeable fonts, and dictionary look up.

I have not had any lock up problems on my Cybook, but I have only had it for a few weeks.

I think either would make you happy. Pricewise the Hanlin from China would be cheaper..depending on where you live in Asia. I heard that you can not buy the Hanlin from China if you live in China.... Catch-22 anyone?

I also like that fact that Cybook has been in the business for a while. I could buy the sony or amazon ebook from the states as my sister lives there..However I tend to like supporting a third smaller option whenever possible.

Also consider waiting for the Astak Mentor. That should be out in September..they will have the 6'' released and later a 5'' and 9''. I plan to buy a second reader...in the near future. YOU WILL LOVE the Eink if you have never tried it. I am converted...however....becareful with the screen ...all of them break whatever the model...so keep your kidgloves on at all times.
I keep my Cybook at home and only take it out if I do not Bicycle to work that day. Too afraid to fall or bust it on my bike.

I have a Gen3 and I am needing to press reset once per three days on boot up. Seems to depend on how long I hold the power-on button for. I bet a lot more are having this kind of problem but until Harry said it was rare I had not given a thought to reporting it. I just assume that Cybook will sort the problem as a normal part of their development process. It is a small pain, no more than that. I'd still buy the Gen3 again.

The Hanlin, lBook and BeBook all have the same hardware. Firmwares are very similar, but the different companies may make some changes in their versions.
The firmware updates work on all three devices, so it's perfectly possible to have a BeBook with the Hanlin firmware, or an lBook with the BeBook firmware.

I guess the main reason to buy one or another is the price, warranty and availability in your region.
