I know what you mean, but I have bought quite a few devices on ebay, and never had any problem. Of course I am careful....lots of sellers don't even know how to properly describe the item they have.

ETA - I think my mini was affiliated with FNAC, which affected what the sleep screen looked like. Easy to change, so just ask if you need to know how.

I know what you mean about the sellers that's why I try to fight the urge to buy from the cheapest and stick to the ones that lots of feedback and 99%+ rating. Of course I'm not always successful fighting that urge.

What is FNAC and how does it affect the sleep screen? Just so I know what to look for.

Yeah, that was another reason I chose the H2O over the Aura HD. The HD seller eventually replied and said they were moving and had suspended ebay operations until after the move. If I hadn't already ordered I don't know if that would have made me feel better about buying from them or not. Oh well, done deal now. Just have to be patient until Monday, that's the tough part.

Some resellers of Kobo have their devices configured to display ads when (I believe) the device is powered off, and possibly in sleep mode.

This is controlled by the affiliate configured in the configuration file on the device, and is easily changed to a non advertising affiliate.

FNAC is a European reseller who shows ads.

Thanks for the info. At least it's an easy one to spot. I saw some Glo's on ebay with boxes that said Kobo Glo by fnac, I wondered what it meant and now I know.
