IF it's a windows 10 problem, it MAY be fixed with the AnnUpdate.
Do you have another pc to test it on? |

Have you installed any "Preview" versions of Windows 10, or are you running the ordinary consumer version of Windows 10?

I am using a full version of Windows 10. It isnt a new install i have been using it for a while and it worked until 3 days ago. I just dont understand why after I updated Calibre to the latest version it stopped working.

Or if you prefer not to do that, you could install an earlier version of Calibre Portable and see what it does with your Kindle - it won't interfere with you current install or libraries. BR |

How many cords do you have? I found when I was using a lower power cord than what came with my Fire unit, Calibre wouldn't see it. Once I got the higher power cord in, not a problem. This happened with both my Fire HDX and Fire 8th gen. It didn't matter which computer I plugged in either, but the problem only started with Windows 10 (I upgraded in March).
In the meantime, I emailed converted books to my Fires until I figured out how to solve the problem. There is an email address associated with each of your devices and you can find these on your account where your ebooks are located. You have to convert epub books to mobi for it to work (AZW* is iffy). Last edited by Tarana; 07-31-2016 at 03:35 PM. |

@Kirstendomenech -
Does it show up in ThisPC as a disc drive with a letter, or as a Device (e.g. 'Fire')? When I connect my Paperwhite, it shows as a mounted drive with a drive letter, but connecting my grandson's Kindle Fire, it shows as a device (named Fire) Double clicking opens the internal memory and/or the SD card and I can drag files to it, but can't use my 2-window file manger to copy since the FM requires a drive letter I use Windoze to copy books to my Paperwhite not Calibre, so I don't know if this makes any difference to Calibre Just an observation |

After struggling to make my Kindle Paperwhite visible to my W7/10 laptop and Calibre, I swapped the original Kindle cable to a 'faster' cable (supplied with Samsung tablet).
Problem solved immediately: the Kindle is listed in W7/10 and Calibre 'sees' the Kindle and can send to it. |

BetterRed yes I have tried that yes it did not work, neither has switching to a faster cord, or any of the other answers. I am just at wits end.

If nothing is working for you then you might want to try Calibre Companion. It should run on an HDX and does not use cables. Try the free demo version to be sure that a) it works on your device and b) it does what you want.

Why might that work you may well ask... Calibre portable is self contained, trying it would eliminate/identify the calibre configuration data in your %appdata% directory as source of the problem
