I would just sort by date. That would do what's wanted and keep the newly imported books together.

The reason that I don't just sort by date is because I'll frequently import a specific book, clean up the metadata, and send it to my reader while I still over other books, added in bulk, for which I haven't yet had a chance to fix the metadata. Thus my use of a "fixed metadata" checkbox field.

It also does not work to sort by date if you start with a 'empty book' (wishlist) and later ADD the format

@JSWolf - Whilst the Date column is populated with the current date when a book is added, it is also an editable column. If the date a book was added to the library is irrelevant to a user he/she can use it for something else -- maybe to the date by which the book must be read in order to pass an examination or contribute to a book club discussion.
I assume that's why the column name is Date/date and not Date Added/dateadded - it can be whatever you want it to be. When I add a book, I clear the Date cell by pressing F2 followed by the - key. I use the Date column to track 'progress' Besides which, the OP has already written that she doesn't have space for the Date column in the book list, so sorting by it is not an option. @theducks - if you have already added an empty book, and you add a format to it, then you can change the Date to Now by pressing F2 on the Date cell followed by the = key. I was pointing out that using date without intervention had gotchas to be aware of. |
