Hang in there until tomorrow, the off-site recovery image archives should be updated by then with new links.

We are also working on a jb for the 8th generation device(s), since we happen to be in that sort of mood this weekend.
I need to rename my upload, perhaps. Then add all the links to my "simple debricking" pastebin.

I am fighting getting an SFTP server open through my DSL router. Testing fails so far (using https://ftptest.net).

Hmm, localhost FTP works, but SFTP sends login message and client does not see it.

Aha. A protocol name mismatch! What FileZilla FTP server calls SFTP does not match WinSCP SFTP, but it does match WinSCP "FTP SSL/TLS". At least I have localhost SFTP (of sorts) working. But the firewall layers are still being obstinate. I never used this brand of modem with port forwarding before, and it seems to not work in any obvious way.

I will sleep now and try again in the morning. I am beyond too tired.

The factory initialization packages are also on an sftp server (in addition to the cloud server).
My sftp server accepts pub-key auth only, so . . .

Ah, phooey, I'm too tired, PM me tomorrow at a reasonably late hour.

Why would you open a server on your router? On your personal internet connection for us to download from? That's just asking for trouble...

No no no... A convenience for somebody to upload an image we need. I put them on mediafire for mass consumption.

However, he must be using knc1's server, because he said his upload speed is very slow and will take hours to upload.

I do not have time to fight with windows. I should probably switch to linux on my dev laptop since my "accelerated schedule" (very short remaining lifespan, unless a miracle falls in my lap).

LOL indeed. Firmware images. I suggested he get a free mediafire or dropbox account, so not sure where it is being uploaded. Just looking forward to getting a download link so I can study it, which promises a more universal method than we are about to announce today (with jailbreak pre-installed, perhaps).

Now that it is known that "Demo Mode" is the key to one of the downgrade attacks (DGA-2, this thread).....

Anyone interested in about a dozen Demo-KV units?

See warning posted later in this thread.

Many karma points to anyone whose web-search foo can turn up a Kindle Demo Oasis.

I wonder if somebody has a friend at a store that has demo Oasis units? Perhaps a demo.bin could be harvested from there? Or maybe grab one with a smartphone with SSH over USB (in diags)? May need a serial/password convertor for that (such as a kindletool subset built for android).

Those are not Voyage. They are the 7th generation basic kindle model. I actually ordered some of these earlier, then discovered the error. They are on the way to me to arrive tomorrow and then be immediately returned. I'm surprised that this involves two different eBay vendors. The one I ordered from and a 2nd vendor that just copied the listing.

scp/sftp is not ftps. ftps (ftp ssl) is evil for firewalls. Better start sshd as user on port 1025 and use rssh as the login shell to avoid ssh login.

He uploaded his file to a free server, and I downloaded it from there, so I stopped wasting time trying to get it to work through my router (it worked fine on my LAN). It was a one-off affair anyway. And we were both using Windows (arguably evil all by itself), so rssh would have been another can of worms.

ack. Using external servers is indeed a good option for Windows.
