One of the reason for buying i86 was promised update to Kit Kat because size of system partition in older version of boox android is not enough for my normal use. ( I'm using link2sd but it's workaround not solution) Only advantage Android over Linux is flexibility and wide spectrum of additional programs available in play. If I want to use only producer's programs then I choose Ukrainian pocketbook or Kindle. Resuming still for me lack of KitKat update is shame.

Upgrade to Android 4.4 Max 02 May 2017
Bug 1:
Hand writing in Neo Reader 2.0 is broken. - When you write, the pages turns, perhaps the pen touches between strokes activate page turns when you write on left or right side of the doc. - When you write the stroke lines are surrounded with white margin which looks like you erased half of the preceding letter in the word but when you exit writing mode the words appear fully written - Bug does not exist in the other preinstalled app Onyx Neo Reader Bug 2: Device waking from sleep with hand writing and touch input activated at the same time. - I left Neo Reader 2.0 open, when I woke the device the pen was writing and serving the touch commands, I had to reboot Bug 3: Menu key does not work in any app, except Neo Reader 2.0. - In ReLaunchX, which I maintain now, I added the option to invoke the menu programatically but it also does not work on this firmware so it's something with the Android framework, not the button itself. - Suggestion: despite the bug which makes the button non-operational, I would be much happier if I got the "home" button instead of the "menu" button. Home button will greatly improve switching between apps whilst Menu button is less and less used, a trend made by newer Android version which obsoleted the Menu button. Summary: Despite the bugs I like the firmware. It is much more compatible with Google Play apps and works faster than the stock firmware I got preinstalled. Thanks for providing this update, I wish I could help you - Onyx - more if the firmware was available on GitHub. Last edited by plusz; 05-07-2017 at 10:25 AM. |

Menu key not working sucks. I'll upgrade soon and confirm/deny it on a T68.
Edit: The Menu key was flaky under the old 4.4 Alpha. I had to press it twice for it to register. And for the record, I definitely don't want the Menu key changed to the Home key. It's very useful as a menu key. Last edited by Pajamaman; 05-09-2017 at 03:58 PM. |

I used the latest 4.4 update on a T68. The update process appears to work. All the system messages are on the screen (package verified, system image and partition written, etc, applications updated) but at the end of it I am left with:
Android 4.04, build version: 2017-05-03_05-49_1.8.2_e54efe5 I tested a 4.2 app that worked with the old 4.4 Alpha, and it wouldn't parse. I did this twice. The update works but appears to contain Android 4.0.4. Booxtor, can you confirm the update contains a 4.4 image? |

I am pretty much sure that Bug #2 was not a bug. Most likely I was holding the middle pen button at that time. I just forgot that it is there. Indeed in Neo 2.0 the middle button let's you write instantly on a document. It has no effect in the previous Neo Reader app. Bug #1 is still there, however the middle button is a workaround - when writing by holding the middle button no page turns happens. |
