Right. And both of those are important to some of us.

For the record I have an Oasis. Unless reading at my desk with the oragami cover I prefer the Oasis. I was merely pointing out that the Voyage gives the same resolution, a version of the page turn buttons and a thicker battery. Sometimes irony does not come across well on a forum.

TBH, I don't get the Oasis. I don't see what's special about it. I get the Voyage and the PW3, but why the Oasis?

For me, better ergonomics and a book I can turn pages in while holding it one-handed. In that respect it's even *better* than paper. (Yeah, sure, a sane person wouldn't try to read while doing anything else, but I try to read while doing *everything* else, so it's nice to find something that can help enable my stupidity.)

I'm one that prefers the shape of the Oasis. I've never cared about buttons but I'm getting quite fond of the Oasis ones.

I like the concept of the split battery (assuming it worked reliably) but I think they went a little too far in reducing the battery in the Oasis itself.

I'm somewhat biased in favor of the Oasis anyway just because my Voyage screen is so bad. I hate that the screens on both models are such a lottery and now it looks like the batteries are a lottery too.

I'm still waiting to see the Oasis in stores, I agree the shape & real buttons do appeal to me as well. The separate battery in the cover & device do not. The screen issues shouldn't be a lottery, that's just Amazon not bothering with decent quality control measures.

It is a bit niche, but it does have a place in my opinion. It fits my needs fairly well, at least. Now that my Kindle has had time to "settle down" and for me to get into a bit of a more normal usage pattern, I am getting the battery life that Amazon says I should be getting, without having to turn WiFi off like they say they do when they do the measurements, thanks to the hibernation feature. So I'm not really having issues there.

But here's the thing, it is the best one-handed reader I've used in a very long time. The closest up to this point that does it this comfortably were the 5" readers from Sony and Kobo a while back. But this does it with a 6" screen. Despite the weight, I don't mind reading using it one handed with the cover either. The whole thing is just more compact, which makes it more comfortable for me to hold. That is worth something to me. The fact that I can remove the cover and get one of the lightest readers on the market is a nice bonus, but I'm finding that I don't need to pull it out of the cover to be happy with the reading experience. But around the house, I find myself using the cover as where it goes when I'm not reading it.

The Oasis is a weird duck, but none of the trade offs are really a problem for me. I wouldn't recommend it unless someone was seriously thinking about it already though. Because the Voyage is quite good. But if someone was looking to the Oasis for its strengths, and weren't too concerned about the weaknesses, it is a really good Kindle.

Although, there's always the QC fun of new Kindles. Joy.

I hold my Voyage one-handed and find that the haptic sensors work beautifully. I far, far prefer them to physical buttons because they work from a change in pressure rather than pressure itself. You can, therefore, hold the Voyage as firmly or loosely as you like with no risk of accidentally turning the page.

Depending on how you hold it though, the accidental touches were from the screen itself, with the thin bezels. Not from the page turn buttons themselves. I don't expect everyone to have the issues I had, but the Voyage was a bit of a trade off from the Paperwhite when it came to options you had for holding it.

It is not the same design, but better thought out during the design phase!

Fair comment. I can't say it's a problem I've ever experienced, but if you let your thumb or fingers overlap the screen I can see that it could happen.

I use an H2O that's larger and yet I have no issue using it one handed. I can easily swipe the screen with my thumb be it right or left handed. You just have to get used to swiping slightly differently depending on which hand it holding the H2O. I got used to that using a 650.

It isn't so much let, as it kinda tends to happen when the bezels are thinner than your fingers. And holding it so it doesn't happen means lying in bed with it doesn't work as it isn't supported properly in your hand, or you have to constantly adjust to hit the buttons, making it a two-handed device again.

If you read while sitting straight up most of the time, it's not nearly as annoying.

Yes, that was my issue with the Voyage as well. I think few would have scoffed at a Voyage 2 with a tad wider bezels. I actually like the haptic buttons. I think making them slightly etched so you could navigate in the dark would have been a nice improvement, along with wider bezels.
