Can you please give some titles of eBooks you've borrowed from Overdrive that you are having difficulties with? I'd like to see if I have access to any of these and can try on my H2O.

That's my memory and what I thought as well. My quick search for how to do it last night seemed to suggest it wasn't straightforward but had changed. Happily, I can do it in four or five lines using calibre classes.

Not sure if you were addressing me, the original poster, but I'll figure yes.
Some of the problematic Overdrive epubs I borrowed were,
The Fig Tree by Conn Iggulden
The Camel Club by David Baldacci
NYPD 3 by James Patterson
Cockroaches by Jo Nesbo

I'm inclined to think it might be an issue with the library/Overdrive since this has never happened before...although I'm not sure how the library itself would be responsible. I've fiddled with ADE in 50 different ways, made sure that both of our accounts are carefully, and separately, registered...
Not sure what to do at this point.
I guess look into this Calibre business!

Really?????? Calibre is the ebook manager. You can get it from http://www.calibre-ebook.com/ and there is a forum here for discussion.

The settings/tools are all there at the bottom, like usual, but it's as you said: the sliders have no effect on the font face or size, margins, justification, etc.
And a lot of the library books we borrowed this time around are older... so wouldn't that negate the possibility that it was a publisher-set font, since this issue began to occur for us only within the last couple of weeks?

Depends,
Those are all big sellers and IIRC, they all have the same publisher so not negated at all.

Oh and no one assumed you were a clueless old fart.

Now I am not sure Calibre does anything with library (borrowed) books.

What happens depends on the book and the option. A lot of it depends on the style definitions in the book. Some are completely overwritten, some aren't and some are used in combination. For an epub, the margins should do something as they control the space on the sides of the viewing are. The line spacing should as well as it acts as a multiplier of sorts. I can't think of exactly how the font and size behave.

The exact behaviour depends on the firmware version. Early firmware couldn't adjust either the margins or line spacing if these were set in the books. There was also a difference depending on if the book set them in relative terms (em) or absolute (px). Also, I tend to find that older books are worse for this. There are still plenty of books with rubbish code in them, but I think the publisher/creators are slowly seeing the light. Very slowly.

Unlike Cinisajoy, I did take you as a "clueless old fart". After all, you've been here for a total of FIVE posts, how could you not have been converted to the "Church of calibre"?

I borrowed NYPD Red 3 from Overdrive. I can change the line spacing and the font size. But the font cannot be changed. It's a problem with this book and not a problem with Overdrive.

A sample of the eBook shows that there is a "font-family: serif" in the CSS that's preventing the font to be changed.

Sorry it took so long to getting around to this...

Ok, so I installed the latest version of ADE on my windows machine, plugged in my kobo, and transfered the "how to use ADE" document that came with it.

Opened the document on the kobo and the fonts were pretty big.

Plug into the machine I have calibre on, used the "set reader fonts on selected books" tool in KoboUtilities (2.3.1, whoops, just noticed there's an update)...

Get settings from device does nothing (which I think you predicted).
Get configuration brings up some huge font size like 34... maybe the Linux Libertine font I'm using is messed up and 34 looks good on it but terrible on the built in fonts, I don't know.

Anyway, if I cancel out and start over , KoboUtilities remembers a font size of 22 which is much more sane for the default fonts. If I then push that out to the ADE books, they look normal.
