I agree with milady133--I keep my readers in cases, but don't handle them with kid gloves. They go in my purse or bag which I tend to toss around to some degree. So far, haven't had any broken screens--have went through several e-readers over the last several years and have at least one of them with my always. From reading posts here I realize that the screens are fragile and one of mine could break, but I'm not planning on changing my behavior. If I do end up with a broken screen someday, I'll be disappointed but won't blame anyone as I know this a characteristic of e-ink screens. I'll either revert back to one of my older readers, or more likely use it as an excuse to purchase a shiny new reader.

And I'm yet another one that doesn't handle my readers with kid gloves and have never broken one yet. I take a reader with me every time I leave the house all year round in Midwest extreme temperatures. It's got a decent sleep cover on it, and I carry it either in a very small purse or a pocket. About the only thing I pay attention to is not to have something else that's an odd shape pressing against the front of the reader when I stick it in my purse or pocket.

I've dropped my Sony 350 about 3' onto concrete several times, not even a scratch. I haven't had butter-fingers with any of the Kobo readers for the concrete drop test yet, but I really suspect it's just a matter of luck in how the reader lands.

I know that the substrate is very fragile, but it's never been a concern for me just using common sense in stashing it away.

The only rough handling my ereaders have had is wrestling them out of their cases. Especially in the early days of molded cases some of them have almost required crowbars to remove them. I like to change cases frequently and I worried about bending them when prying them out of the case. I guess I've just been lucky because I've never broken one.
