@Innula - my guess is that the problems your having with Calibre and SublimeText have a common cause - something you run at startup is interfering with both.

It shouldn't take long to do a binary search through Task Manager's start up list. Lets say you have 20 startup items, you'll find the culprit with 5 re-logons (no need to restart); probably less, because after 2 or 3 your intuition will kick in...

Assuming you don't have a huge (IMO > 30) number of items in Start up, it shouldn't take more than 15 minutes. If you do have a 'huge' number of items you could make it quicker by disabling the need to enter a Win 10 password ==>> How To Disable Login Screen In Windows 10

Fixed it!

Maybe it's simply coincidental, but I deduced from the Sublime Text error message that maybe Java was something to do with it, since Sublime Text was not behaving properly, either.

I uninstalled Java, downloaded and installed the latest Java for Windows, restarted my computer and now both Calibre and Sublime Text are behaving properly.

So it looks as if the problem was to do with my installation of Java.

Thanks, everyone, for all the help.

@Innula - thanks for letting us know

Java's had problems of this sort for years (maybe forever). Are you sure you even need Java? When cleaning up other peoples computers I often find it's installed, yet nothing actually uses it.

Good question. I'd assumed that Calibre and Sublime Text both must be using it, but you seem to imply that's not the case.

I'll certainly try uninstalling it and seeing what, if anything, breaks.

Thanks.

Calibre uses Python (included), not Java
