Thank you - must be a Kobo "extension". Series info isn't a part of the standard metadata in an ePub book.

I never got it to work consistently on my H2O. On some books, it shows the series, on other books not... (naturally, they're all correct in Calibre).

Out of interest what do you do when a series is continued by a different author? e.g. Ludlum's Bourne series (First 3 books) is now wrote by Van Lustbader. Or the Wheel of Time being finished by sanderson. |

It works perfectly on my Glo. The trick is that you need to connect to Calibre a second time to transfer the series metadata (or else add it manually using the KoboUtilities plugin if you don't have Calibre set up to do it automatically) after the book has been processed by the device, because the series is not read from the metadata in the book in the same way the title, author, etc.is.

I just continue numbering the series under the new author, eg "Wheel of Time 12 - The Gathering Storm". If I want to list my books purely by series, all I have to do is change the sort order of the Kindle's library screen from "Author" to "Title".

Since you're using Calibre to manage your library (smart move), you could adopt the series and genres (tags) listed for each book in Goodreads and/or various bookstores (e.g., Amazon, Baen, BN, Google Play, Kobo, Smashwords), by importing those books' metadata. That approach is usually easy-peasy, because Calibre automates it, though you may find yourself tweaking the metadata you've imported, e.g., by adding another series (or a different series), or editing other fields for some books. It's also possible that you won't find every book you own in Goodreads, but not to worry: book reviews, the publishers, and such sites as Worldcat, Wikipedia, Project Gutenberg, the Internet Archive, and Abe Books typically supply genres and series. |

Kobo devices use a database that is populated with metadata when the book is added. When books purchased from Kobo are downloaded from the Kobo server, the metadata including the series info is set. For sideloaded books, the KoboTouch driver can update the series info in the database when the device is connected. Or, my Kobo Utilities plugin will do it.

I do mostly cookbooks. I gave up on trying to put them in collections. Ebooks that is.
Even my physical cookbooks are not that organized. I need to redo several shelves this summer. |

I use collections by authors, then I put the series together under that author. I change the name to the name of the series, then the title of the book.
Call Of Crows 001- The Unleashing Call Of Crows 002- The Undoing So I just pick an author I want to read, go to that collection and choose my book. |

Interesting how different people handle series. Both Calibre and Marvin handle series as series, so I have no need to worry much about it. I just put the book in Calibre as a series, and when I download it into Marvin, Marvin recognizes the series and allows me to search by series. The biggest issue that I have with series is how to order the Honor Harrington series by David Weber with all it's branches.

No collections on my device. Just never made sense for the handful of unread books that are ever on it at any given time.

I have classified my books in to tags on Calibre and was able to convert them to Collections on my H2O by configuring the Kobo device reader interface plugin on Calibre.
Initially I tried with Kobo Extended device reader plugin for creating KEPUBs, but transferring, and processing them is taking painfully long time. Hence deleted the Kobo Extended device reader plugin and done the job with the standard Kobo plugin. |

edited: fixed plugboard. Now get the series number on each book on my Voyage!
I'm relearning how to use collections in light of getting a Fire and Voyage. I keep fewer than 100 books on any one device these days as having many, many books didn't work out for me in the past. However, if I can figure out the collections better, I can keep far more on. I like collections. I create a collection to hold all of one series or author, Scifi, Mystery/crime, COMPLETED (so that I remember to fix errors in originals in Calibre), NonFiction and Cookbooks. The rest I leave loose. I have over 1000 books on my Amazon cloud and it's unfortunate that I can't put these into genre collections. You have to scroll endlessly while browsing and for family members who only like scifi or only like Mysteries, it's a pain. I know what is in there, they do not.
