I only bought the one $49 Fire, which is only used by a 10 year old, with just a silicone shell (no cover, no screen protector), 5 months later, no problems. Except the dirty screen.

For those of you that have the $50 tablet, how responsive is it?

I have the 8 inch version, and its slow opening up apps and windows. I also find it difficult to long-press on internet links so that I can open pages in background tabs.

The 8-incher has a slightly faster processor, but its also got 66% more pixels to handle (I don't know if it has a separate graphics processor?).

However, given the way its slow, I suspect the problem is too little RAM and the six incher probably has the same RAM.

How about muddy water. No wait, that is probably the name for the cheap screens they put in them.

I just use mine for reading (it has blue shade), but I do notice it takes a second or so to open a book. Not the zippiest tablet out there.

One person I knew decided to only go by Pantone #. A few years later Pantone reformulated the colour, and it was visibly different. Oops.

Go and read a map together (back home, after picking the paint), and then park the car. You'll feel superior again

In this case, I have to make a confession; even though my eyesight is quite poor and most blind bats can see sharper, I can distinguish colors as well as any woman I know. (Although, granted, I don't know any of the names, and they do ) Maybe that's because I've been in photography for quite some time, using a perfectly calibrated and profiled high end monitor. Maybe seeing more colors than normal can be trained, or it's just a fluke of nature in my case. I don't know.

I do colors by DMC floss numbers.
Oh and that chart is slightly off, green yellow should be between green and yellow. Not green and blue.

I helped one person at my library with her Fire tablet. I also found it to be less responsive than more expensive Fire tablets as well as more expensive tablets like the iPad or the Nexus 7 I used to own. For children, this is probably a good tablet. However, if I had to use it as my go to tablet, the lag would drive me nuts.
