I use a sleeve/case (most of the time) for transporting my Kindle, I never have it in a cover while reading though as I don't like the extra weight/bulk.
Your poll should probably differentiate between those two. |

Absolutely! I never use ereaders, tablets, and phones without one.
My reasons are two-fold: protection and to make a thin device thicker. |

All of my e-ink readers have covers and two of the four e-ink readers that my kids use have covers; the other two only have protective silicone cases. They seem to prefer it that way. My middlest has two kindles, one with a cover and one with a case, and she never uses the one with the cover. My oldest would a back-only case as well, but there aren't any available for his now-discontinued Kindle and he does not (yet) want a new one.
I like being able to "close" my "book" when I'm stopping, rather than seeking a button to turn it off. I guess it's part of my "workflow" (if reading can have a workflow LOL) to return to the outside cover of whatever I'm reading and change my focus to something else. |

My e-inks no. Though they do have cases for traveling. My Fire and Galaxy, yes. My old slick ereader yes. Pandigital tablet, no. Though yes it has a case.
Note to others: tablets and ereaders from Big Lots are cheap and not in a good way. |

![]() I use a cover, not because I think it'll protect the device against breakage, but rather, it protects the device against scratches on the screen. I'll use it even in the house and while reading. |

I have a kindle keyboard. It goes everywhere with me. I carry it in my bookbag in a quilted oven mitt for a case. I don't use a cover at all. Even with tossing groceries and other items into the bag with my kindle I've had no problems in all the years I've had it.

Nope. I'd use a cover if there was a silicone shell for the H2O but it seems folks only want the book style covers for the H2O. Alas. I do have DecalGirl skins on the H2O, but those offer no real protection aside from scratches to the casing.
I only use a case for my iPhone because it doubles as a battery, otherwise I'd let that go naked as well. |

I've always used a cover. I like a clean, neat presentation.

While I use a cover for my current reading device, an 8" Windows 8.1 tablet, I don't use one for my Kindle (K3/keyboard). I do have a neoprene pouch that snugly fits the Kindle and that is where she* lives.
* all computing devices in our house that connect to the network have names and my Kindle is Pauline, named after the personal assistant device used by John Boone in Red Mars. My tablet is named Agnes after a computer that falls in love with her operator, Elwood (played by Wally Cox), in an early Twilight Zone episode. The earlier reading device in my avatar is (battery is shot but works fine on AC) named Rei Toi after a character in William Gibson's Idoru. |

Nope, not since Kindle Touch (with 'lighted cover'). I like it as light and sleek as possible.

Haven't used a cover in years. I do keep it in a case/sleeve when not in use.

Contrary to several people above who find their readers more comfortable to hold with a cover, I find mine easier to hold without (probably because I have small hands). When I am reading at home I don't use a cover. I do use a cover when taking the reader away from home.
If I were to drop the reader while reading, even if it's in the case, there's no guarantee it won't fall facedown on the floor with the cover open...... |
