I.E: some modem/radio cards have an integrated SIM socket rather than wiring it out through the connector. = = = = If you find yourself having to enter the command: mntroot rw stop and think first what you are doing. The system image files are normally R/O for a reason. ![]() |

I don't know what you might have to change to get that exclusive access away from the Kindle's firmware while you are playing with the 3G card's command set. (Which, by the way, I posted a reference manual on way back when.) Since the Kindle's are known to work **WITHOUT** the 3G card working - just taking it away from the firmware is not the problem. The problem is that many (most?) of the system files are checksum'd and the checksums stored in a manifest that is checked on each re-boot. (Which point I had forgotten when I added a file to my K2 and then let it re-boot a couple of weeks ago. The DX is just a large screen K2 for the purposes here.) |

While turning off radio Kindle's software wont use it (maybe some AT command to tell hardware 'go powersave' and 'wake up'?), but the device should be available in /dev as serial port. Then it could be possible to send/receive SMS without interferencing with firmware. =] But wait! Let's assume what can be done to check possibilities. Put minipcie modem from K3 into some other device and check... - check what? There are such modems/devices like one attached (i'm going to look for something like such on my localisation). I can try this out. But still - what will we get to know when i test it? Buy another K3 that might go brick and test. That's quite self-explanable. Work on my daily-used K3 and hope it won't get broke. Ok, lets assume i won't modify rootfs (now i'm quite sure i won't): Quote:

Ok!
Tried something like this: Code:
[root@kindle /dev]# modemcmd -c "AT+CMGF=1" -v modemcmd 0.3.3 Copyright (C) 2008, 2009 Amazon Technologies, Inc. All rights reserved. [root@kindle /dev]# echo "AT+CMGF=1" > /dev/tts/USB0 && cat /dev/tts/USB0 [root@kindle tts]# echo "AT+CMGF=1" > /dev/tts/USB1 && cat /dev/tts/USB1 [root@kindle tts]# cat USB1 [root@kindle tts]# tail USB0 tail: read error: Resource temporarily unavailable [root@kindle tts]# lsof USB1 COMMAND PID USER FD TYPE DEVICE SIZE/OFF NODE NAME wand 2710 root 8u CHR 188,1 0t0 33000 USB1 [root@kindle tts]# lsof USB0 COMMAND PID USER FD TYPE DEVICE SIZE/OFF NODE NAME pppd 13661 root 7u CHR 188,0 0t0 33004 USB0 |

The /test/ folder on one of my K3s contains WAN diags, which use lipc commands (not AT commands) to talk to the radio. These diags support multiple brands and models of modems, and both GSM and non-GSM modems. Also, during the 511 diag, the comments say the 15-second countdown display is to give time for the user to place the device into a "cage" (Faraday cage, I presume). It also places loopback calls, and makes connections with "callbox equipment" (a Stingray-like device?). There are also notes that it can take the radio up to 34 seconds to power up after it was asleep, before it can accept commands. No AT commands in diags -- just lipc commands...

i've been wondering... is it possible to put K3's firmware on K3G device? it would block firmware from using 3G modem and would give us possibility to mess around with modem without interference. (even if it is wand, pppd or lipc)

https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custo...deId=200529700 The best way to "mess around" with 3G is in a Faraday cage (as recommended in the K3 diagnostic scripts in the /test/ folder on some kindles). Last edited by geekmaster; 04-16-2016 at 07:40 PM. |

I've bought motherboard to mess around. It'll be hard to jailbreak it without screen and install usbnet, but hey, it's not impossible, isn't it? Faraday cage is a good idea, but it wont give me possibility to receive anything. I'll buy some pre-paid card and send sms to it if i figure out anything... Well first thing is to disable 3G while networking is on and/or enable it when connectivity is off. |
