Many people think that "File.txt" is the name of a file. In Linux, it is (AFAIK), but in Windows, the name of the file is "File", and the extension is "txt". A file called "File.tar.gz" has the name "File.tar", and the extension "gz". Thus, even if you use "con.txt", the name of the file is still 'con', and that is not allowed*. The reason is because typing 'cd con' in DOS would be nonsense, as you would be trying to change directories into your keyboard. The globally available 'con' file would take precedence over any folders with that same name. (In DOS, IIRC, you couldn't have folders with an extension.) Thus, it isn't even useful to try and create a folder named 'con'. Creating a 'con' file would be even more useless, as you can't change directories into a file. Programs can't create 'con' files either. Thus, if Calibre, in some way, ends up creating a folder or a file with the name 'con', it will encounter an exception. (* Officially, it's also impossible to create a file such as .htaccess in Windows. In Windows, it would be a file with only an extension, and without a name. Try it on your desktop. Create a new text file, and call it .htaccess. The error is: "You must type a file name." There are two workarounds: First: Create a file with a valid name such as "file.txt", and then, in a command line, rename it: "ren file.txt .htaccess". Second: Open Notepad, and save the file as ".htaccess". For some weird reason, this works.) Last edited by Katsunami; 04-06-2016 at 05:34 PM. |

@Mashkai - look in the Authors tree in the Tag Browser, is there an Author named 'Con' - if there is change the books author to something else - e.g. Constance Worthington Added : Also check in the target library for the move - you may have a book there by Con - with no author or a book folder - is that valid? It's not reported by Check Library as an error Suggestion to Kovid : don't allow Author and Title values of CON, LPTn, COMn etc. Talk about red herrings - this one was at least a few flounderers ![]() BR Last edited by BetterRed; 04-06-2016 at 07:00 PM. |

@Katsunami - legacy, legacy - a mere 21 years. IBM's z/OS supports utilities that came with OS/360 - 51 years.

Umm people this is already fixed in calibre, https://github.com/kovidgoyal/calibr...ecfa83b830d35f
@Mashkai: Either wait for the next release, or search in your library for authors named con and rename them to something else. |
