Copy jb to /mnt/us. (root directory mounted when attaching kindle to a computer)

If it succeeds, you can then run NiLuJe's bridge update pack to complete the jailbreak. This just installs the developer key.

Yup, the hotfix predates the 5.6.5 JB release day by, err, a lot (it was originally released on the 17th of December, 2014, to be exact). And the decision to rely on it and not reinvent the wheel also came pretty early in the actual elaboration of the format the release would take, so it wasn't a surprise to anyone involved

The hotfix post was even updated well before the actual public release to make sure everything would be ready on release day...

Since OP said that KUAL is gone I'm guessing it's just another case of "ALL" (= renamed "Cloud') not displaying sideloaded books

vs "Downloaded" view/filter?

Posting from my Kindle as I had to go to bed. If the bridge is the hotfix, then I'm 99% certain I installed it!

So if I installed the bridge, how do I recover?

Even if you never jailbroke, IIRC you should still see the active content -- it would just refuse to open.

EDIT: viewing the wrong scope would indeed explain it -- in a way that losing your jailbreak wouldn't.

eschwartz - I had never jb'd a kindle before, so I didn't know the signs of a broken jailbreak. Also I'm an idiot for not noticing that I was looking under all (cloud), not Downloaded

It means our MKK keys have gotten wiped out.

Restart your Kindle, the bridge code should re-install the MKK keys for you.

If that fails, install the 'hotfix' (again).

Would it be possible/desirable to add a button to setup the bbb iptables block rules to alleviate this auto-update problem? A foolproof way for diagonal readers, while being useful for others?

(BTW, do newer firmwares allow reject instead of drop?)

Evidently you haven't installed BBB yet.

It **IS** a set of KUAL buttons.

Hmm, that's true.
After I downloaded, I thought, "okay it's a 2013 plugin, let's have a look."
Then I set it aside because rules don't survive a reboot, do they?
I think it probably needs an upstart script, but I'm not too sure where to start, having only handled init.d scripts before.
