You made a poorly-thought-out suggestion (but in no way was that meant to be an accusation about your or anyone else's intelligence ! ![]() I doubt calibre is truly perfect, that is a pretty high bar. I can say that it does more or less everything I need it to do ![]() If you want help working with the way calibre works, we can try to help you with that. If you have criticisms of calibre, we'll try to be accepting of that... but suggestions which have the side effect of severe performance regressions (as I strongly believe is the case here) are not going to be given any respect. ![]() |

emmgee, if you want to be able to add Kindle books to your Calibre library automatically on your Mac without Calibre deleting the files from your Kindle library, you can use an app such as Hazel to set up a script that automatically COPIES any new .azw files added to your Kindle library into a new folder (I've named mine Calibre Auto-Add), and then point Calibre to the new folder and tell it to automatically add any new files appearing there. So then all you need to do is open Kindle for Mac and download a new book, and it's automatically copied to the auto-add folder, whereupon it's added to your Calibre library the next time you open Calibre and then deleted from the auto-add folder. Does that solve your problem in a more elegant fashion?
Keep in mind that the first time you set this up, Hazel's going to move everything in your Kindle library into the auto-add folder. You can further restrict the script to prevent this, or you can simply let it do its thing and then empty the auto-add folder before opening Calibre. But after that first go, it'll run smoothly for any new additions. |

How is the example an endless loop?
It's opening Calibre, and periodically importing books into Calibre. *And then finishing, until next time.* It'd take a lot of time with 300 books, so it's not something to do each time Calibre opens, but it's an option at times. On the Mac, it's easier to sort the Kindle library by date added and file type, and select the newer azw files while skipping the rest. Last edited by MarjaE; 05-08-2016 at 06:43 PM. |

tl;dr Yes it does happen each time calibre opens. The point of an auto-adder is that it is automatic. In fact, it happens again for all those books every time a file is added or deleted or modified in the auto-add folder, even while calibre is running. |
