I can turn pages on either side using the touch screen with either hand. I don't see how the buttons make this any easier. Actually, the buttons make it easier to accidentally turn the page.

(I find it more difficult to turn pages backwards in my KP, just holding the device with my right hand. The left area for turning back is far away of my thumb) I don't get miss turns, but i have adjusted the force of the pressing buttons to medium. Maybe it's me, but I really like the buttons. Make my reading experience more confortable and easier. Don't know if that feature alone is worth the price difference, but the overall experience, with the other features, in my case, does. I am really happy with the Voyage, and the paperwhites and touch are resting in a drawer for now... Last edited by el_topo50; 03-02-2016 at 09:59 AM. |

Thanks for all of the additional comments. The "memory" feature of the Voyage backlight is pretty cool!
I think one reason that I am attracted to the buttons is I have them on my K3 and have been happy with it. I'm pleased overall with the K3 and if it were not for the backlight on the newer models, and the prospect of dealing with a battery replacement in my K3 in the not too distant future, I would probably just stick with the K3. I read a dozen or so pages on my wife's P3 yesterday and I think that I can adapt to the touch screen page turn. One thing I don't like about hers is the backlight is not even -- it is brightest in the bottom left corner, and there is kind of a dark band across the very bottom of the screen. She says it does not bother her. The suggestion of an audition/comparison is a good one. So far I have been unable to find a Voyage locally but I think that I should have a hands on before making the final call. |

I love my Voyage. I alternate between just using the touch screen, and using the haptic buttons. When one part of my finger gets sore, I use the other mode.
The Voyage has a metal back (as opposed to the Paperwhites) and better resolution. So it's not JUST the buttons that you are paying more for! |

Higher resolution (same as KPW3) Supoosed to have improved front light (more even) Brighter and whiter glass flush screen (no more dented plastic one -although sometimes i miss the PW2 touch feeling) Haptic buttons Sensor light 512 MB RAM (i think) 4 GB of internal storage Smaller and lighter (7.6mm thick, it's 1.5mm thinner than the Kindle Paperwhite; 181g, 25 less than PW2) Premium metal feel. Definitely, you should check it out! |

The same goes for the haptic response, and adds the possibility to turn that response off. And if you dont like the buttons, you can always turn them completely off or use them simultaneously as badgoodDeb said before. Beware, though, that voyage "buttons" feel very different as those you are used to in K3. They are like pressure sensors, not actual buttons... Last edited by el_topo50; 03-02-2016 at 01:48 PM. |

Just a follow up in case anyone is curious ........
I found a Best Buy that has both the Voyage and the PW side by side so I got to do a comparison. The text on the Voyage is a little crisper, but not really noticeable to me unless holding them side by side. The Voyage has a little more of a quality feel to it. The biggest difference seemed to be in the screen light -- the Voyage seemed to be pretty even across the entire screen, while the P3 lighting was not even, like the P3 my wife has. After using the page turn sensors I decided that to me, they were not much different than tapping the touch screen. The one thing that I really don't like about the Voyage is the position of the power button as I don't think that it would work with the Kindle case that I have. All things considered, I decided that to me there is not $100 difference between the two and my pick is the P3. Thanks again for all of the help! |

I have a PW3 and a Voyage and they're both excellent. I keep the page turn buttons turned off because I'm so used to swiping I never remember to use them. I did try them for a while and they work very well. Amazon did that right. But I found myself swiping so I turned them off.
I didn't like the adaptive lighting and I turned it off as well. I really don't feel a need for that since I rarely adjust the lighting. I keep it set in the middle and that's always about right for me. With the adaptive lighting it would sometimes change, which I found disconcerting. With both of those features off you'd think my PW3 and Voyage would be about the same but the Voyage is smaller and with it's case on it weighs less than half as much as the PW3 with it's case on, which makes it easier to hold. I use the Voyage most of the time but the truth is when I use the Paperwhite I'm just as happy with it. I bought the Voyage on a whim and I'm glad I did but I'm not sure I'd do it again. Barry |

They are both really, really neat devices. For that matter, so is the K3! The number of books that I read has gone up exponentially since I got my Kindle. It is so much faster and easier to get books, and I find the reading experience with adjustable type size etc. to be superior to reading a paper book.
