Please note that if you use WiFi, your Kobo can and will automatically download the latest firmware upgrade so leave WiFi turned off. There is a patch to prevent firmware updates from happening over wireless (Block WiFi Firmware Upgrade) in GeoffR's patches but I've never used it so can't say as to how efficacious it is. Good luck! Thanks again, Davidfor, IamPablo, robco, I don't know yet whether the new image is a help, have tried a 16GB then 8GB mini SD cards (Verbatim) transferred image with win32discimager, and only got a black screen, when I tried turning on, just a blue led flashing for a short while, then nothing, will not connect to pc in that condition, replace old SD card, working again, same prob. of course. I can only think the bigger SD card is not compatible, will search out smaller card when next in city. Sorry have not responded sooner, life just a bit frantic, moving a daughter down here!

The LEDs flashing like that means it is trying to do something. I would suggest a factory reset using the buttons. And checking that the screen is still connected properly.

Thanks again, I just hate the idea of throwing away something that still potentially works! Will persist as long as this forum guides me!

Thanks again Davidfor & members, as a progress report, without knowing how to ensure screen was connected, one final factory reset, EUREKA! Read 4 chapters last night, not a hang! Thanks again, will be here lurking even if I have no problems, you people must cost manufacturers a mint! Thanks again, will be happy until battery dies.

Still having the same issue with 3.18 - the unit freezes for 1-3 minutes after reading for a while. I did a factory reset, hooked it up to Kobo Desktop, copied to 3.18 files over and "ejected". It updated the device and I had the problems immediately.
Any advice? ![]() |

Do you guys copy over the old firmware AFTER you setup your kobo or right after you do a factory reset?

Mr Roper, just follow instructions from DNSB a bit earlier in this thread, use 3.16.0.as Koboy suggests, thanks every one for your help & advice, reader is now working again. What a great resource this forum is, wish I had the skills to be a helper rather than a helpee! (and I don't care what Mr Google says, that describes my position!)

I agree, this is an awesome site with a lot of valuable information and helpful members. I probably would have had to buy a new ebook reader if I didn't find this site. |

Well, after all the help from members, my trusty old Touch finally gave up, dead battery. I now have a Kobo Glo, (old model, been slack posting), and the new screen is a great improvement, even easier on eyes than the Touch, and I wouldn't have believed it possible (then again, I didn't believe a flat screen would be much better than my old CRT monitor!)

If you bought books from Kobo, you should be able to download them again, so you won't lose them. And if you have free ebooks, then again you can replace them.
I had a Touch, it went wrong like yours, well out of guarantee. I gave up and bought a Kobo Glo. In a few months the USB port started to fail (not charge) intermittently. I returned it for a full refund and bought an android tablet. Better in some ways, not so good in others, but reliable. |
