Interesting. I have the problem also; it just hung at the first boot screen for the third time since upgrading to 708.

Not really that much of an issue for me, but I *am* using a Kingston card as well (a 1GB one in my case).

Could still be coincidence of course; there are a lot of Kingston SD cards about.

I do.

However, I have used it for less than one week, hence I can't tell whether it is the cause to the problem. But it seems so far so good.

Used to. Didn't have any (major) trouble as far as I remember. Switched to a Kingston 128 MB card some time ago (because my cam needs huge memory more than my Cybook), had some troubles since upgrading to 708. So either it's Kingston cards in general, which I find hard to believe, since Kingston, as far as I know, is reknown for good quality, or it's another factor, maybe the Cybook model? I am using the "old" model with 64 MB internal memory.

Well, I am using a Sandisk (ExtremeIII - 2GB) sd card in my CyBook (with 512 MB internal memory) so it's not only Kingston. As I don't have any books on the card (yet) I'll go ahead and try it without a card inserted for a few days (had the lockup about 5 times now - always with sd card in and always resolved by a reset without removing the card)

Well..., it seems that the problem (frozen screen), in my case, it is something related to the card or the card slot of the cybook (see well, I am not talking about a brand of card).

I am using sync / copy of my books only in the internal memory of cybook, and so far no problem (6 days).

I had initial problems with the 2 GB Kingston card that came with mine. Changed to a 1 GB Sandisk card then. No problem with the Kingston card in other devices. My third lockup may(??) have been related to the fact that I forgot to use the "Safe to remove" option on my computer that time.

Well, after about a week (of light reading) I had not a single lockup with no SD-card installed. Granted - I didn't read as much as before, but at least one lockup should have occurred by now.
So it seems to have something to do with the SD-Card. I checked my card (a Sandisk Extreme III 2GB) and there were no errors, the card is completely empty, not a single book on it.
Strange.
Ah well - at the moment, the internal memory is more than enough for me.

Does this mean there may be a defective SD card slot on the gen3 causing these issues?

who knows?, if Bookeen say there is 'nothing technically wrong' with my Cybook, then yes it does point to one of two things; the SD card/slot or the current firmware.
i cannot recall my Cybook 'freezing' with any of the previous firmware....
although i have had previous problems with bookmark and last page memory...

Just had a third lock-up. This time I note that it occurred during the first reading period after finishing a full (re-)charge of the battery. I do not recall if the prior lock-ups occurred immediately after recharging, but it's now something I'm going to keep an eye on.

If it occurs again in similar circumstances, I will try without the SD card and see if it still occurs.

Was the recharge via USB & computer or AC outlet?

Didn't have any difficulties for quite some time now, and I definitely didn't change anything, didn't even put new books on. This is quite strange.
Ran out of juice last night while reading, I'll see whether this changes anything.

I must admit reading whilst drinking a glass of beer or wine can be refreshing... ( )
