Permissions look fine (System, current user, & local Administrators group: Full Control).

Disk cleanup doesn't come up with these files. I don't generally use that anyways as the only time that I did, one of my utilities stopped working.

Does the Sony program create thumbnails for the books?

When I delete a book in ADE, as well as removing the record from manifest.xml it also deletes the PNG thumbnail from the "My Digital Editions/Thumbnais" directory. The Thumbnails have the same filename as the EPUB files, but with a .png instead of .epub extension, so another way to check is that the .epub files without a corresponding .png thumbnail are the ones associated woith deleted books.

The 2nd copy of the file appears in:

The first part of the path corresponds to the %TEMP% environment variable. On my machine, this has been the program's behaviour since ADE 1.7 on Win XP.
Very interesting. I can confirm they are there on my system as well. I had about 200MB worth of files in there (no extension, but they definitely have the contents of ePub files).

I haven't found a thumbnail folder. A Windows search for png files did not turn up any ebook covers.

Been there done that. The only way to be sure is to open them. And YES, I was deleting them as I returned them but they never got deleted out of the folder. Fortunately, I knew about 3/4 of the ones that were library books (they were for my Mom, so I knew I would never read them.

I've started copying the library ASCM files to the My Digital Editions directory. They are usually formatted similarly enough to the titles that I can sort, and anything with a somewhat-matching ASCM file is a library book.

And thanks to Jeff L for the tip - I just cleaned nearly 1GB out of that temp folder.

1GB of ADE ebooks???
(This despite that no one else seems to have seen temporary copies of ADE books, like, ever.)

Anyway, it's just a good policy in general to cleanup %TEMP% e.g. on every reboot. Linux systems are usually configured to do that automatically.
Anything that ends up in %TEMP% is something that might matter to a currently-running process but almost certainly doesn't need to survive a reboot.

It was over 900MB, don't recall the exact number. They weren't exactly ADE books - they were strings of letters and numbers with no extension, of significant size. Bigger than the epubs, actually, which makes me wonder if they are uncompressed cache files. Regardless, the copy of ADE on this machine was cleaned out over a week ago (both from the Library screen and then the directory), so those files are for books that no longer exist.

I do clean out temp files occasionally, those were just from the last couple of weeks.
