Yep. I realize that the fake registration is definitely combustable with wifi on. I thought I had BBB firewall installed, but I guess not. Amazon unregistered my "test" unit. So I reinstalled the fake registeration, and turned on airplane mode. From research, it sounds like using usbnetwork and using chmod on the reg file might be a more robust solution. (Correct me if I'm wrong). I'm still pleased with having the collection function and the vocabulary builder working, but is there any way to get wikipedia working or is that a reach? P.S. Thanks knc1 and eschwartz for all the prev. replies!

Wikipedia is proxied through Amazon's servers.
To connect to Amazon's servers means letting the Kindle find out it isn't registered. It is possible there are *some* safe IPs to let through, and Amazon's Wikipedia proxy doesn't leak your registration fakery, but if that is so no one has ever investigated and found out. ... You could write a custom Kindle Touch ACX which runs off your own server. Last edited by eschwartz; 02-29-2016 at 05:41 PM. |

*) I never tried to find which of those networks where used for what purpose.
I did include quotes from the whois information, but the names are not all-revealing. *) I have read before suggestions to use a custom ACX rather than access through Amazon. See: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=235859 That example app uses google translate - - but I **think** the thread includes other uses (no, I didn't re-read the whole thread - just guessing here). Something more than: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=266541 Which I don't see any follow up on. Last edited by knc1; 02-29-2016 at 05:47 PM. |

I keep on suggesting it, but no one takes me up on it.
