Well, I've been testing this, as I know my mousework is less than precise due to my poor eyesight. I also hold my mouse a bit slanted; the 'nose' of the mouse points a few degrees right of exact north.
I've been trying weird/sloppy ways of nesting the entries, but the result seems completely random. Sometimes I pick up the selection somewhere in the middle, and it doesn't work, not even when trying to move exactly North. Another time I pick up the selection and I go North-East, or even (when picking it up at the right-hand side) North-West, and it works. I do have the best success-fail ratio when picking up the first item in the selection, however. The only thing I haven't tested is the calibre theme style. I can test it to see if it makes a difference, but even if it does, I won't switch to it. I find the sytem style to look better (at least on Windows). By the way: what is the reason that selecting multiple entries and then pressing CTRL-Right does not work? Is it just not implemented, or is there a technical/QT-reason it can't be done? Once it fails, you need to clean (flatten the affected section) |

I never had to flatten anything. Sometimes, just trying to move the entries again will work. The workaround always works: drag the selection out of the list, and then drag it to the entry it needs to go under.

Note that there are two drop modes -- when a single black line is shown, it means the drop will place the dropped items at the same level. When a black box is shown it means that the dropped items will be places as children of the boxed item. Now if you have
a b c and you try to drop b, c on a when only a single black line is shown, it will refuse, because b, c are already immediately below a. You have to make sure the black box is showing when you drop. |
