Jup, my still-alive still-used 650 does not have hyphenation and can not handle soft-hyphens.

Maybe this post should be in another subforum but since you asked here, I post here

If you open this epub3 ebook:

kindle_previewer_3_sample_epub_amazon.epub

with the last Kindle Previewer 3, you'll have a .mobi file with hyphens. Now I still don't know, why others epub3 with the same features of the previous example and with the "lang" tag declared, don't show hyphens.

When Amazon makes this available for linux I will take a look. I assume that they will need to make a version of KindleGen available that will create these at some point, once again I will wait for the linux version.

ADE/RMDSK does not support soft hyphens. So it's not worthwhile to make a hyphenation plugin for Sigil. If you are making/editing an ePub for the source to a KF8 eBook for a Kindle, you can use the Hyphenate This! plugin with Calibre. You do not want to add soft hyphens to an ePub. It will just cause more problems then it's worth. Plus, searching will break as well. So if you go to search for words in Sigil, it won't work.

ADE 2.0 (and upper), does support soft hyphens. However, it doesn't make sense to use them with this rendering engine because ADE 2.0 and upper have a built-in hyphenator feature.

ADE 2.0.1 does not properly handle soft-hyphens. You cannot search for any word that contains a soft-hyphen. But as you said, since ADE 2.0+ supports hyphens, there's no need to add in soft-hyphens.

In Spanish the ADE's hyphenator do crazy things in so many words. And then it is essential to use soft-hyphens.

Soft hyphens do not work with ADE. They break searching. So it's not essential at all because they don't work.

Did you define the language of your epub with lang="es" (or xml:lang="es") in the <html> tags?

The issue with soft hyphens in ADE is that -as said JSWolf- you can't do searchings. Otherwise, soft hyphens look fine in ADE.

Again: no. My ADE is showing soft hyphens all the time, regardless if they are at the end of a line or in the middle of a line. If its there, its been showed. Thats the reason why i still stick to this version of ADE, as it shows almost everything like my PRS650.

The version of ADE on your 650 is a version that doesn't have hyphenation and does not work with soft-hyphens.

So what's been hashed out is that it's worthless to create a plugin for Sigil to hyphenate ePub as you will break the ePub once the soft-hyphens have been added.

So it's time to forget this as a plugin isn't a good idea.
