FYI, for your future knowledge--technically, you just violated Amazon's T&C, and voided his contract with Amazon. Amazon very expressly forbids, absolutely, a third party logging in to a publisher's account. For the purproses of uploading, etc. If your client is disabled, you should have him give you a letter of authorization, to cover your butt.

My question is: I noticed that only the Kindle version is available and this is sent wirelessly to a Kindle. What if somebody wants the epub file? When putting the ebook on Amazon, is there an option to have both Kindle and epub available? How would someone put this Kindle book on an Android phone, for example? When I get free public library ebooks from Overdrive, I am given the option to get epub or Kindle version. I always get the epub version because I refuse to register my own Kindle Touch. So I get the epub version, strip the DRM, convert to mobi and then put the file on my Kindle Touch via USB. When I'm done reading the book, I just delete the mobi and index (sdr) file.
You sell the ePUB on various other retailers. Apple, B&N, KoboBooks. AND, to get to Overdrive, you use a distributor. Smashwords or one of the others. That's where ePUBs are sold. No, you won't get anywhere uploading the ePUB at Amazon. Not if you already have the MOBI up there and for sale.

To put a Kindlebook on a Droid phone, you simply read it in Kindle for Droid. Same with other tablets and devices.

Amazon only makes books available in their own proprietary formats. They have free apps for iOS and android to allow reading on those devices.

(eta: sorry for the duplicate info. I didn't notice the post by Hitch on the next page before I posed.)

No worries. ;-) If some (info) is good, more is better, and too much is just enough. Right?

OK, got it. No epub on Amazon site.
Another question: When I was putting my friend's mobi ebook on Amazon, there was a question something about, do I want the book to have DRM, and also something about "sharing" the book. I choose the default - no DRM, but I don't understand the advantages/disadvantages of choosing DRM/no DRM.
And I don't understand the Amazon words about "sharing" the ebook. It seems to me, the only way to share the ebook is to give somebody the Kindle ebook reader that contains the book. How else could you "share" the ebook"? My understanding is, unless you are pretty good at hacking a Kindle, there is no way to access the internal file the represents the ebook. In my brief look at my friend's Kindle Fire, I could not access (with a computer and USB cable) any files in the Kindle except a few folders that were available for upload/download (user pictures/videos/mp3/storage, etc).
By the way - the Amazon site allows reading the first 4 chapters of the ebook for free. I think that is really nifty.

In the US you can share the book to someone else. I guess its still in the eperimatanl phase. If you share it, you cant open it any more on your Kindle, but the the who got the share can open it. After two weeks or so its then vice versa again.
But his is bound to the DRM, AFAIK you cant share without DRM.

But i cant see what this has to do with workshop. There are other forums handling Amazons behaviour.

It's asking you if the book is eligible for lending. If lending is enabled, a buyer can lend someone the book once (and once only); the book will become available for download to the borrower, and will automatically expire a certain period (2 weeks, from memory) later. During that time period, it will be unavailable to the original purchaser.

It's very, very easy to get at books on a Kindle. Look in the "documents" folder on the drive that's mounted when you connect the Kindle to a PC with a USB cable.

Thanks for the info on the lending/sharing of Kindle books.
Also, thanks for the info about:

Since I personally never get Kindle books wirelessly, I had no way to experiment with that (accessing the actual ebook file via USB cable/PC connected to Kindle). I just assumed that Amazon would make it very hard to do that for the purpose of reducing piracy.

They allow you to "Download and Transfer Via USB" from Manage Your Kindle, so, no...

The Kindle tablets and smartphone/tablet apps are less obvious than the E-Ink devices or Kindle for PC. But you can still find the files.

Security through obscurity is a terrible anti-piracy policy.
Better to rely on giving your customers reasons to want to be honest.
