Maybe Jon should start offering to fund all the updates he reckons people should make!

What is it about your computer that won't work with Windows 10?

That's exactly what happened. The tool didn't like something about the bios. I bought that PC back in 2008 and it had Vista on it. I am trying to avoid Windows 10 and I am trying to get Ubuntu to work on it, but I am having trouble with the video freaking out. Kind of rusty since I haven't used Linux since 1999! I have another machine running Redhat 6.1 (old as dirt, but still works) and I'm going to use it to try a diagnose the problem. Keeps me busy!

Might we ask the brand and model?

BTW Many BIOS can be flashed. Did you check the manufacturers site for updates?

Do be careful to flash with a full charge if a laptop.

I am also a fan of Linux Mint (Cinnamon)

I didn't check the manufacturer as I figured the machine was considered ready for a landfill. It is a HP Pavilion a6547c

HP have probably updated the BIOS a couple of times. If you have never checked, you should. It might not have a Win10 specific updated, but there might be a Win7 update that fixes whatever is needed.

Well, I just did, using the above info
No Joy in the BIOS department.

(There were a few other firmwares , but messing with an otherwise working system at this date probably wont fix anything)

Your HP Pavilion a6547c can be upgraded to Windows 10. I just found a post at Tom' Hardware saying it's been done.
