I sort of do that. I had to bulk rename the html files to add a 'order' prefix so that I could identify them. Of the 9 or 10, there were probably 3 distinct tagging styles so it seemed easier to merger and use S&R on the whole thing one time.

I usually 'browse' through each piece to get the low hanging fruit, and a RE helps a lot.

The CSSs that are merged and usually not worth salvaging by now so I delete them and add and link my 'standard' as a starting point. Browsing through File Preview usually high lights the really bad disconnects (headers as <p>, etc.)

I also have stored S&Rs to replace things like <span class="italic'> pairs with <i> but even there I've had to S&R class="ital" or class="italic2" so I could catch them on a second pass over the whole book. I replace </tag> <sametag> and <tag></tag>

The headers are usually the largest problem: sometimes the chapters are tagged with <h3> and a class="..." or an <p> with an inline {style}. For a merged anthology, I like <h1> for the start of each book and the front and back matter, and <h2> for the chapters. That way the TOC and inline TOC are easier for me. Some of the books had 3 or 4 TOC files since it looks like they had been converted several times, each time adding another TOC.

This might not be the most efficient or fastest way, but for me it is within my capabilities and something I can handle

I also have now learned a fast way to remove the last bunch of unneeded classes that were only used once or twice (certainly better that the 20 or so manual S&Rs I used last time, even with a RE)
