What about roger64's problem with text-selection in Sigil. I had the impression that this is the main reason he switches between Sigil and the Calibre editor.
DiapDealer alerted us to that fact that lumpy text-selection is a known Qt issue on some Linux variants. But calibre uses Qt and presumably roger64 uses the same variant of Linux for calibre as he does for Sigil. Sigil and calibre are probably not on the exact same version of Qt, but they're not that far apart, are they? Slow text selection in text editing is a show stopper for me. BR |

I am pretty sure it has nothing to do with Qt5 per se.
I compile Sigil and calibre from source (both are @HEAD), against my system Qt5 (Arch Linux, so latest release) -- calibre is fine, Sigil has slow text selection. Last edited by eschwartz; 01-21-2016 at 04:59 PM. |

How exactly is it slow? Is this with a mouse drag over a large piece of text or by putting the cursor at the start and shift clicking at the end? Or ... ? If you have an epub, that illustrates this with a selecting a specific section, I will try to recreate it on my Linux Mint 17 build.
Thanks, KevinH |

Dragging the mouse or using SHIFT + arrow keys (didn't think to try SHIFT+click, I'll get back on that), and I can replicate it with any EPUB including the default blank which is baked into Sigil.

And it's definitely mouse/pointer-related--as keyboard highlighting works a treat, with absolutely no lag. EDIT: Well maybe not NO lag, but definitely more responsive with the keyboard than the mouse. Last edited by DiapDealer; 01-21-2016 at 08:53 PM. |

Hi,
I will play around tomorrow on both Linux and Mac OSX. I assume we are talking CodeView here? Does Calibre do syntax highlighting and line numbers as well? Can you think of any obvious differences that might help hint at what might be causing the issue. KevinH |

calibre does syntax highlighting and line numbers as well. (But of course it could be Sigil's highlighting implementation. How can I turn it off to test?)
Code View, of course. |

Now that is weird.
I left the Sigil window open. Came back just now, was going to double-check SHIFT+click... and there is no slowdown. At all. Same book. Same Sigil session. ... Switching books, then closing and restarting Sigil. Either way... no more speed issues. ... EDIT: And now it's slow again! But SHIFT+click doesn't have a slowdown. It's a puzzler alright! I've had times where my main machine (which usually selects text terribly slow) has no problems at all--but it's rare.

Hi,
There was this Sigil bug report but I could never reproduce the problem on Mac OSX or Linux Mint. https://github.com/Sigil-Ebook/Sigil/issues/39 The poster suggests the slowdown is associated with simply having copied things to the clipboard. He has even posted a video which I never saw. So can anyone confirm that copying things onto the clipboard or having a full clipboard is in any way associated with this slow highlighting coming and going on Linux. He then made a bug report at Qt too. KevinH |

And copying something (small) to the clipboard and restarting Sigil makes it slow down again. Last edited by DiapDealer; 01-21-2016 at 09:03 PM. |

I've been able to see the slowdown even when the clipboard is empty.
EDIT: *Restarting* Sigil after clearing the clipboard, it is fast again. Copying the entire Section0001.xhtml from the blank book, pasting it a few times, etc. and it is still fast. EDIT2: So, is the speed dependent on whether the clipboard has content at launch? ![]() Last edited by eschwartz; 01-21-2016 at 09:15 PM. |

Mine appears to be slow whenever there's ANY content in the clipboard at Sigil launch.
