I found a windows 7 VM where I could reproduce the issue, it was caused by the needed root certificate not being installed in the windows certificate store, as I thought.
You can manually download and install the root certificate if you want, its name is DST Root CA X3 or simply installing all windows updates should the trick (unless your windows is locked down by some kind of group policy. I have changed calibre to use a private CA certificate from the next release, so there is no need to depend on having the root certificate installed in the OS.

To clarify snowstone's message about installing "all" updates for windows 8.1. It means the optional updates also. I had 8.1 with all mandatory updates installed and was getting the same plugin error message. I installed two optional updates and the error message went away.
Of course, this is just short term since Kovid updated calibre to use a private CA certificate. |
