Why do you buy SONY if it can't support most of formats in the WORLD? Just curious.
Go Hanlin V3 and it solves all the problems. Don;t you CHECK WHAT U WANT B4 BUYING? Sad to hear that buying a "branded SONY" causing you "so much of trouble" Hong |

In my opinion, it is absolutely false and misleading to state to our audience that the "Hanlin V3 solves all the problems," even though the Hanlin may indeed be a fine ebook Reader. Very simply, not all the problems are solved by the units that you sell. In fact, no one single ebook Reader solves "all the problems," whatever those problems may be. Sincerely, Don |

Hi Dr.
Yes, it is not true to say that Hanlin V3 solves all the problems...just it supports most of the formats. Well, if you do have problems with other devices or good points of other devices, it is always my pleasure to exchange ideas so that we can go for further upgrading. |

Please guys, let's not get into a "mine's better than yours" spat.
The question was - what to do with a chm ----- (on a Sony). My experience: I've converted two ebooks from chm to rtf. I used "ABC Amber CHM Converter" to convert the chm to rtf and then corrected the rtf file by hand in MS Word. I ended up with quite presentable ebooks. The downside was any illustrations were stripped out and there was a LOT of correcting to do. The program "ABC Amber CHM Converter" has a one month free trial. It does a good job and is well worth buying. It will convert a chm to a large number of different formats, including pdf. I just tried converting a chm directly to a pdf and it worked well. But of course reading the pdf on the Sony gives mangled tables and poor page breaks. I don't know why people create ebooks in chm format. Both the books I converted to rtf were better to read in a linear fashion. (Or maybe I just have a linear brain). |

Decompile the .chm to .html, then convert it.

Here's how I convert .chm to epub. Converting to other formats might work too.
I've only tried some simple chm files. I will try some more complex files and let you know how they turn out. |

I saw where you had begun development on chm files in Calibre. I tried two different files in version 0.6.48. One only converted the Table of Contents. The other didn't get anything, likely because it had no TOC. I have assumed you are working on getting that working and look forward to it.
Thanks for Calibre, BTW. It makes conversion and management of ebooks so much better than anything else. |
