If it's broken, you are supposed to only get $5. The bonus is just encouragement to buy another kindle. All 3 of mine work - using them as recently as last week. One has some troubles with the wifi, but they are intermittant. The other two work fine, but I'm sure their batteries are aging out. As mentioned, I think they give them away after testing them. As with the cola wars, you get a specific brand device into their hands and that is what they are likely to stick with.

It looks like I can trade in my kindle keyboard for $30 and also get a $20 gift card all of which can put toward a Voyage. Is this a good "trade"? Is the Voyage that much nicer than the K3?
It would seem so...but I would appreciate some opinions before I actually part with my K3.

I think both the $20 and the $30 can be put toward any Kindle, so you could get the Voyage or the Paperwhite or even the basic Kindle. I stopped by Best Buy a couple days ago and they have both the Voyage and the PW on display so you might go take a look if there is one near you and choose which one meets your needs. Personally, I like the feel of the PW better but prefer the "buttons" on the Voyage.

Unfortunately they didn't have any other readers so I wasn't able to compare them with a Kobo.

I'm pretty sure it is just a sales gimmick to get people to upgrade. In other words, look at it as a sale rather than a trade-in program designed to flip the trade-ins for a profit. They likely sell the trade-ins in bulk to other companies to refurbish or use as parts, or they trash them. They might actually flip the newer trade-ins like PW2, but the old stuff likely isn't worth their time or expense to refurbish.

Depends on the condition of your k3 and how much you like buttons and whether or not you need any lighting. The Paperwhite and Voyage have the same 300 dpi. Voyage has button like option and automatically sets the lighting while paperwhite allows you to set your lighting yourself (24 values) and is touch screen only.

I would not have traded up if it were not for the good deal (basically $50 per K3 + $40 for the graphite) AND having troubles with 2 of the kindles AND that I can combine these things towards a single Voyage. I also have one more K3 left.

Finally, if you already have 3G on your K3, be aware that it costs $70 to add it to either Paperwhite or Voyage. Ouch!

I never went that far with it. I just followed the online script and thats what it said. Personally I really like the DXG. I take it out of its Amazon Cover and have no problem holding it and I prefer the larger screen, the keyboard and the speakers.

Yes the Voyage looks very nice but if I was going to buy another reader to replace my DXG, I would just buy another DXG. If couldn't find a good DXG then I would step up to a Voyage. The higher DPI might make a difference but anymore I need to use glasses to comfortably read and the lower DPI looks fine.
