You can force an update if the update file isn't placed into any folder and is in the top directory. Once you transfer the update file to the kindle, leave the kindle connected to the computer. Then press hand hold power about 40 seconds. Release power and wait until you see the update process starting before disconnecting it from the computer.
I did this just yesterday to force two PW1 to redo the last update. I was getting Internal Error when I tried to register them and thought maybe the update had been corrupted. I later learned from Amazon tech support that they had an issue on their end they would be fixing this weekend. |

ok so that almost worked, it started the update and then then I get a screen that says
the update was no successful. with "update error: 11" at the bottom. I have the slim suspicion that this may be due to the fact that the FW version I'm trying to use is not for a PW2? yep that was it. I used the most current version of the firmware and voila! software update in progress. Thanks all. I really didn't want to try and fix the pads on the board. my soldering skills are getting better but thats a bit beyond me. |

I'm having trouble with a trio of 3G PW1 that I took out of demo using the method I described earlier. At OS 5.3.9 they will register with Amazon. The registration will hold through updates to 5.4.4.2 and 5.6.1.1. But if I deregister them and attempt to reregister after these updates then I keep getting an Internal Error message.
I contacted Amazon support and they were able to register the updated ones at their end, but the Kindle would not recognize that they were registered unless at 5.3.9. I've been able to force it to redo the 5.3.9 update and see that it again will register, but will not register if either the 5.4.4.2 or 5.6.1.1 updates are performed. Any ideas? But that is an Amazon change, they should be able to handle it. |
