Yeah. I've always been one to think in case of...
Go camping in the woods for a while, A cell blackout, or nuclear holocaust, Or just simpler, being on a cheap 500MB a month cellphone plan, with the remaining data being lowband (aka extremely slow). |

Let's see places not to take a phone. About half of Interstate 10 in Texas. At least 50 miles of Interstate 20 in Texas. The Davis Mountains.
Verizon phones don't work in lower Oklahoma or north of Sulphur Springs Tx. They also do not work within a 30 mile radius of Brownwood Tx. Oh and in some spots on Highway 87 in Texas. Also most of Interstate 37 between San Antonio and Corpus Christi. Thank goodness for our GPS. At HarryT, we saw a stretch of road that one definitely needs both hands on the wheel and great reaction time Christmas eve night. Note, there were not many cars but I can say the white tail deer population is healthy. |

Hehehe... LOL. That the first thing I thought about as well when I heard that the Kindle had free 3G and you'd be able to read Wikipedia.

Go here and look at the Kiwix reader. You can load Wikipedia and Kiwix on a flash drive.
Internet (and 3g) access in very rural areas can be spotty, too expensive, or just plain doesn't exist. (I have relatives in northern Michigan. It truly is the boonies out there. Many places don't have cell service.) Last edited by crankypants; 01-11-2016 at 03:29 PM. |
