In the patch_name = `Custom reading footer style` (the first one) you can change replacement values to adjust the space. I can't tell you what to change, as I leave mine alone. I am sure someone here (Jon?) can tell you what they do.

I've added maybe a dozen fonts at a time without a problem, but since I stick to only a few fonts, I removed them after testing for my favorites. So I don't think there's a limit (other than space on the reader of course), but I would think it would get annoying fast to have to scroll through 3+ pages of fonts to select the one you want.

As for the space at the bottom, there are some pages in the same book which will look like there's almost a full blank line, but it's not really quite enough for another line of text to fit on. Is that possibly what you're seeing? Did you try adjusting the font and size to see if it gets any closer to the bottom?

Yep font size adjustments doesn't change the space and I have one book with fixed margins that works perfectly it's how I like the default to be. How do I take a screenshot on a Kobo? I think a picture would explain it.

Good to know there isn't a font limit. I'm a font junkie so I use different fonts for different genres or moods.

There is a setting you can add to the Kobo eReader.conf file to enable screen shots.
Quote:
You add the following to the configuration file:

Code:
[FeatureSettings]
Screenshots=true
Then using the power button will take an screenshot. The side-effect is that you can't use the power button to put the device to sleep or turn it off.

The screenshots are saved in the root of the main memory.

Another way to screen shot is with a good camera.

I've scanned my reader at times as well for a screenshot.

I've added 12 fonts so far and they seem to all work. I see getting a screenshot isn't easy so I'll just deal with it for now.

ePub reading footer and margins

There are a lot of variables that affect how big the gap is between the last line of text and the page number in the reading footer, and patching adds more, but I can put them into three main groups:

1. The size of the footer itself. Unless you use the FullScreenReading feature setting to remove it altogether then the only way to change its size is with the `Custom reading footer style` patch.

2. The font size and line spacing settings, and also in some cases the choice of font itself. These are set by the adjustment sliders on the device, but can also be affected or overridden by the book's stylesheets.

3. The page margins set in the book's stylesheets, which can be set by the publisher via @page in the CSS stylesheet, but for some books also in the Adobe XPGT (page-template.xpgt) stylesheet.

You might want to try sideloading this margintest.epub book to work out what is contributing to the gap. This book has no added margins, on the first page it draws a rectangle that shows the area normally available for text, and on the following pages is some sample text.

1. If the gap between the bottom of the rectangle and the page number is larger than you want, then you need to alter the options in the `Custom reading footer style` patch to make the footer smaller, and if you want to make it very small you might also need to reduce the font size used for the footer.

2. If the gap between the rectangle and the page number is okay, but the sample text on the following pages doesn't reach to where the bottom of the rectangle was, then it is simply your font size and line spacing settings that are to blame. I.e. there is not enough room for another line of text to fill the gap, so all you can do is adjust the font size and/or line spacing to change that.

3. If the sample text in the margintest.epub book is close to the page number but not the text in other books, then the problem is that the other books contain added page margins. You can remove the margins before sideloading, the Modify ePub Calibre plugin is useful for this as it can remove the page margins from the page-template.xpgt stylesheet too. Or else you can investigae the `ePub fixed/adjustable top/bottom margins` patch which can override the @page margins set in the book's CSS stylesheet, and the `Ignore ePub book Adobe XPGT stylesheet (page-template.xpgt)` patch which causes the book's XPGT stylesheet to be ignored.

Thanks I will do that. Can you tell me what part of the code changes the footer? I know it's the custom header area but what setting is safe to change and what should I'd leave alone.

The details of the `Custom reading footer style` patch change quite often when the firmware is updated, so I've posted in the 'Instructions for patching firmware 3.19.5613' thread.

Okay I was able to shrink the footer thanks to GeoffR instructions and Jon's settings. Thanks guys! I set it to a fixed font too, much better. So will I have to redo this every firmware update?

Yes. Since the patch process makes modifications to the Kobo f/w, these mods are overwritten when a new f/w is installed.

I use Notepad++ (Windows) and I load the previous patch file and the new patch file. Notepad++ comes with a plugin for comparing two files. I compare the old to the new and make changes to the new using the settings from the old.
