Why on Earth are you insulted by the fact that your tests have produced the same results that they've produced for other people? You can sideload a pure KF8 file, but you can't email it. Dual Mobi is the best format to use for email, because it will result either KF8 or MOBI7 being downloaded to the actual device or application, depending on its capabilities.

His original post was to point out what you did wouldn't work so others reading this thread might not make the same mistake. In no way did HarryT insult you.

![]() You aren't exactly the first person to have wanted to send AZW3. MR members have discovered through trial and error that dual-MOBI works and unlocks AZW3 on supported devices (while sending the legacy MOBI to devices that do not support AZW3). MOBI also works, as Amazon documents. AZW3 will not work, I am guessing because Amazon doesn't want you to end up with a book that doesn't support older devices. This is also why you can upload old-MOBI or dual-MOBI to KDP, but not AZW3. (At least, I have heard that uploading old MOBI still works, but I don't know why anyone would want to...) ... Renaming *.azw3 to *.mobi does not change the actual contents of the file, so it won't work. Any more than Amazon will accept corrupted files that have the *.mobi extension. Because as far as MOBI is concerned, AZW3 is not MOBI, so it must be corrupted somehow. ![]() |

I suspect it's more down to the fact that there's no official Kindle books creation tool that creates pure KF8. Mobipocket Creator and older versions of Kindlegen create MOBI7; more recent versions of Kindlegen create dual Mobi.

As to the posts, I appreciate HarryT coming in and confirming.
One person saying they had trouble sending something, ok which end did it originate from. It could have been the person hadn't approved you yet. It could have been anything in the email. It could have been kindle just didn't like that attachment. So HarryT saying why it didn't work can and will save others some time. |

Getting no response other than a link to an Amazon document I had already read, I made some files and tested them. I've learned not to take anything that Amazon says on faith. Sorry if that offends anyone. |

The first is usually good. The second is Amazon customers not Amazon support. I haven't seen anyone offended by Amazon in this thread. |

You didn't know something so you experimented and that's a good thing. Someone saw what you were trying to do and did know that something and offered help; another good thing. Up till that point everything was going well. Then you began belittling the person trying to help you. Maybe he over-reacted a bit but certainly not to the extent that you over-reacted to his help. Then you say you'd already tempered your reaction but you hadn't said anything yet. Maybe you would have but now we'll never know. It seems to me that if you're a person of good will, and I hope you are or you're probably gonna flame me for this post, you'll simply apologize for starting this mishmosh in what is usually a pretty friendly group and drop the argument and go from there. Later on in post #11 you made an EPUB and tested it. ![]() Apologies for not being more clear about the state of AZW3. Quote:
No one here has expressed any sort of offended feelings, except for you. Although a lot of people seem to think your reaction does not mesh well with the posting guidelines re: rudeness. I don't know why you seem to feel that there is any need for offense to be taken, by anyone. I don't see anything even remotely objectionable with HarryT's post -- he simply told you that other people here have done the same experiments, and gotten the same results. |

I get why Amazon doesn't want to compete with epubs that might go on sale below Kindle prices. But I don't see what they have to lose by allowing their CONVERT routine to work with DRM-less epubs such as Gutenberg books? I realize Calibre can convert those, but my results with that have been hit or miss...

I don't know, but really it isn't difficult to convert them yourself with calibre, or if you really want the official Amazon experience, KindleGen.

Most of the books there have various formats. Or if you have an Amazon account, just search for the titles there. They have over 1 million public domain books. Or let me link you to a fabulous library just for your kindle. https://www.mobileread.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=128 The uploaders take great pride in their work there. |
