Problems viewing Lounge Posts - Page 2

What Jon said. Is there anyway to try a different internet connection like 4G or someone else's WiFi like a McDonald's WiFi? My first thought is finding out who end it is on ours or yours.

Home, work, out on the town. Same with all devices and all computers regardless of make, model or location. It's like the Lounge is haunted.

I'm going to do a few tests to see if it is related at all to threads that have a large number of replies. I mean, I can get into this thread, but then I started it. I noticed that I could not get into any of the Unutterably Silly threads, but several of them have thousands of replies.

I was able to get into a few threads at the Apple Device forum, but then those don't have tons of replies generally. I didn't try other forums simply because I'm not interested in them. The Lounge, that I love.

So, I'll try seeing what happens when I try to view threads that have a more reasonable number of replies (in the Lounge).

And it does seem to be related to the number of posts. I was able to view something with 82 replies, but most of the really great Lounge stuff are threads that have been going on for years. For those, I just get a white screen which stays that way for an hour or more (so if anything is loading, it is taking it's own sweet time). And, mind you this is on every device and computer I have ... No exceptions.

Thanks. I do think now that it has something to do with the number of replies in each thread. Although, why this should only be happening to me is still a mystery.

Try using MSIE or Edge (depending which Windows).

I looked into the Mod panel and noticed you have threaded set as your default view. Can you try the linear view and see if that fixes it?

The largest post I was able to get into was Chicken, with 3000+ entries. However, anything bigger than that is white screen so far.

I do believe it is related to thread view. Threaded causes a server error thus the white page in long threads. Linear works which is what I always use.

Here's what I get in threaded on any large thread. I'm going to move this thread to Feedback so when Alex pops in he can take a look at it. I suppose it's a limitation in the script or something. If you switch to Linear all should work so there is the work around.

Where is that set? I don't see it on my own Control Panel .... (or is it inside Firefox, rather than MR's control panel?)

Go to your User CP at the top of any MR page then Edit Options. Scroll down to Thread Display Options. You will see Thread Display Mode with a drop down box. It's that setting that needs to be Linear. There are two Linear modes to choose from.

Got to be it. I've never had a problem seeing posts in the Lounge. I just changed to Threaded and the Lounge went whitescreen. Changed back to Linear (Oldest First) and everything works again.

And, that's what it was. I switched to linear as well, thanks for the tip, and now everything is working perfectly.

Funny, after being gone for so long, I really have to relearn everything from scratch.
