Maybe I'm the dumb one. I couldn't get the book to delete until I touched the mark in the center of my screen -- or at least that is what I thought. Have I been misleading myself into thinking the icon in the middle of the screen is touchscreen? (I don't have my Reader with me or I'd check it out again, but heck -- if I've embarassed myself a little, I might as well go for the whole shebang )

You were serious? Ha ha ha that is even funnier than the five seconds I spent seriously considering your initial post (hey, nothing like shared embarrassment to increase the fun) . Perhaps you accidentally hit the bookmark button when you picked it up or something?

What may have happened is that it finished deleting the book (and updated the display to tell you so) about the time you touched the screen. That would certainly give the impression that it was a touchscreen.

I'm afraid so, rhadin, but don't worry, you're in good company: we've all embarrassed ourselves at one point or another.

Sadly, I was serious.

It has been pointed out to me privately that I am wrong about the touchscreen capability. Maybe I did unknowingly press the bookmark button before pressing the icon on the screen and thus deluded myself. (Can I chalk this up to my old age? )

I apologize if I mislead anyone; it was unintentional. I really did think I happened on something significant.

wow, so this delete function is much better than the hacked "delete" function created a while back..

Issues with new firmware

Hi, guys. I've been checking this site for a long time now, but this is my first post.
I updated my PRS-505 about three months ago, and I've been checking it every day. I just doesn't feel right.

I'm not sure if it is just me, but it is now acting up. It always had battery problems, and since I life outside U.S, i just have to live with it. But now, I'm having issues with the booting. It is very slow. It takes a lot to load, and much more to format a file. And in some cases, it will enter this reboot cycle some has already post about. I'm guessing this is also affecting the battery, because now it worse that ever , it drains extremely fast.
I really love my reader, but it is becoming a pain in the neck.

I was wondering if any of you have had this kind of issues with the new firmware and if there's anything that can be done to fix them.

Thanks,

Copy all books off the device and try reformatting it (somewhere in advanced options).

Hi mey_500

I personally would try those things.
- remove memory card[s] and see if the problem remains
- if you still have problem try unloading all the books from the reader and loading only a very few books
- If even that doesn't help try resetting the Reader through the reset hole on the back according to the user manual page 68 (see document http://www.docs.sony.com/release/PRS505.pdf )
- then try restoring default settings according to the user manual page 76 (see document http://www.docs.sony.com/release/PRS505.pdf )
- there is page describing "hard reset" https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/Sony...ctory_settings but this is for PRS500. I do not know if it works for 505.

see our page https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/PRS505 for further inspiration

- Let us know if it helped, so anybody who searches this forum for help with similar problems can read your solutiuon

I have just checked sony.co.uk and there doesn't appear to be any new firmware

sony.com has the latest version available but with a nice red warning -

NOTE: This utility is only for use with the products identified and sold in the United States, or Canada. Not all models are sold in all countries.

Has anybody from the UK tried this firmware? Does it work or do I need to wait?

Thanks.

UK firmware (1.2.*) appears to be just the latest US (1.1.*) with UK date formats (dd/mm/yy), so nothing critical.

Well I really like the non-USA date format (dd/mm/yyyy) so the UK firmware is critical for me

Haven't seen anything about deleting a book though on my current firmware. How do I check what I have?

I also find date format important!

The 'About' screen should have the firmware version on it somewhere.

The 'Delete Book' should be on the 'Utilities' sub-menu below a title's menu page. It should be a 3rd option there - the others are something like "Clear History" & "Clear Bookmarks".
